Yesterday I was invited to attend The Climate Brick's launch at the HSBC Innovation Banking's HQ. The Climate Brick categorises different types of #ClimateTech businesses and through an analysis of over 3,000 companies, aims to create a benchmark and identify which areas need solving at each specific stage of growth, from pre-seed to Series D and beyond. Sonya Iovieno then hosted a fireside chat with Aniruddha Sharma, CEO of Carbon Clean, sharing his fascinating journey from refusing a job offer at McKinsey to starting Carbon Clean and raising $190m in the latest Series C. Despite the size of the company and its growth, Aniruddha shared how site visits and staying close to customers has been key. I understand the value in creating a manual as a 'how-to' for founders to guide them in building and scaling a startup, but the most successful founders have also broken all the rules and followed their own track. Would this discourage investors if they didn't fit neatly into a category? Is past data reliable to understand what a benchmark of future scaling should look like?
