UK remains second for fintech funding despite downturn. 💡 UK fintech funding fell by a steeper rate than the global average in 2023 but retained its second place for investment globally. The findings are based on PitchBook data compiled by Innovate Finance, the UK’s industry body for fintech. UAE-based fintech FlapKap has raised $34 million in a pre-Series A funding round led by BECO Capital, with contributions from Pact VC, A15, Nclude, QED Investors, and Channel Capital. Founded in 2022, FlapKap provides revenue-based financing solutions to help SMEs grow through quick funding and flexible payment options. The company plans to use the funds to expand across the GCC and MENA regions, enhance its technology, and launch trade finance products for B2B companies. FlapKap’s AI-driven approach accelerates the loan process, supporting SMEs in e-commerce, retail, and restaurants. Total funding now stands at $37.6 million. Brasilian fintech a55 raises an undisclosed round from paysecure Brazilian #fintech company #a55 has secured a new investment from #Paysecure, a leading payment orchestrator. This funding comes on the heels of a55’s successful $16 million Series B round in January 2022. Founded in 2017 by Andre Wetter (CEO) and his team, a55 provides a financial underwriting platform that helps businesses with recurring revenue access liquidity through working capital loans, cash advances, and a billing and conciliation solution powered by AI. To date, a55 has granted over $90 million in credit to more than 1,000 businesses across Brazil and Mexico. With this latest investment, a55 plans to expand its credit and advance portfolio to over $65 million and orchestrate over $40 million in payments annually. The company also aims to broaden its banking and credit offerings to a global audience, starting with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Latin America. CEO André Wetter highlighted that the funds will enable a55 to provide advanced financial services and credit solutions, as well as acquire software licenses for various payment methods, crucial for expanding their offerings in the Latin American market. Paysecure’s expertise, combined with this capital injection, will further support a55's mission of empowering small businesses with the financial resources they need to grow. This brings the total amount raised to €50 million, which will be used to develop new payment solutions and scale operations across the continent. 🔵 Mondu makes business payments as frictionless and accessible as consumer payments. Using a proprietary platform, the company provides merchants and marketplaces with a suite of B2B payment tools that simplify invoice management, invoicing, and payments. 🔵 Mondu has already experienced rapid growth in Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands. 🏦 Nigerian digital bank, Carbon has acquired a fintech startup for SMEs, Vella Finance . The two-year-old startup was acquired through its parent company OneCredit to launch a groundbreaking A🏦I-powered business banking platform. 👥 For its 8,000 SME customers, the company will transition them to Carbon Business while individual customers will get the option to upgrade to business accounts. Some of the team have already been absorbed into the new merge. 🫱🏾🫲🏾 Speaking about the transition, Vella Finance CEO Tolu Adedayo and his Co-Founder Mark Afolabi , said that the company is delving into AI-powered SME banking that will help users get actionable insights from their financial transactions, which Carbon plans to leverage as it is launched Carbon Business.
