Financial Times’ Post

With just days to go until the opening of the Games, a lack of demand for tickets has increased concerns that athletes will compete against a backdrop of empty seats. https://on.ft.com/46gh23y

Could the initial tickets sales a few months ago and at sky rocketing prices have put off visitors? … Combined with the then ridiculous prices for accommodation the budget required for attending the Paris Olympics was just too much… How will this turn out eventually?

Cost is one issue. 1500 euros to see equestrian competitions...cost of lodging. Cost of restaurants. Everyone put the prices up forgetting the universal ideals of the Olympics. Also having told everyone to be aware of potential for terrorist attacks. And given France's poor record on proactively stopping attacks and investment in security services it's not surprising. I'll watch on the TV.

We tried to buy tickets, but my goodness they were expensive, coupled with the travel and accomodation costs. Having said that, I wish Paris a successful event

How about a ballot for offering the tickets for free to kids? After all, it's an incredible source of sporting inspiration for them, and they will be the sports stars (and/or fans) of tomorrow....

I wonder 🤔 if the people behind governments are preparing for a spectacular during the Olympics.

Just throwing my two cents here, as it stands, the 2024 Paris Olympics have sold around 8.2 million tickets, just shy of the record of 8.3 million sold for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

The goal of the Olympic Movement is to contribute "to building a peaceful and better world by educating youth through sport"  That doesn't quite work when the ticket prices are so high that the young cannot attend to be part of it. I declined the right to buy tickets (I was in the ballots) when I saw the prices. The cost to host the olympics is not sustainable and high ticket prices are a reflection on this. Sadly this means that it stops being a "people's" event

How surprising indeed, rocketing prices, greedy hotel owners thinking we are all millionaires, everything about it was outrageous.
