This week is World Autism Acceptance Week 🌎 Let's shed light on some critical statistics: 🔹 Only 29% of autistic people are employed. 🔹 70% experience mental health challenges. 🔹 Over 150,000 individuals await autism assessments in the UK. At eXPD8, we're committed to fostering an inclusive workplace that empowers every colleague. We are also proud to be a Disability Confident Leader - meaning we have been certified by the government as actively taking steps to attract, recruit and retain disabled workers. This feeds into our strategy, where we are committed to providing an inspiring and inclusive place to work that empowers colleagues to be their best every day. Whilst Autism is recognised as a disability from a legal and medical perspective, we understand that some autistic people do not identify as disabled. #AutismAwareness #WorldAutismAcceptanceWeek #InclusionMatters #DIG

It's World Autism Awareness Day! 💬 There’s much discuss about neurodiversity at work beyond the reasonable adjustments employers should make and employee rights. Let’s explore the people behind the label, what it means to grow up under the neurodiversity umbrella, and how to ensure your workplace is truly inclusive and supportive. ✔️ Our aim during this blog is to convey the emotional and personal journey those under the neurodiverse umbrella go on. It doesn’t stop with spelling, reading, and writing. There’s a host of hidden emotions and, in some cases, burdens that your neurodiverse colleagues manage and mask daily. While some experiences and some elements of life are more challenging than others, there’s much to celebrate. Extremely important report published this week in the UK, outlining detailed recommendation on how to make your workplace more inclusive. It is great to see this being considered and invested in at government level. While we aren’t anywhere near this point in South Africa, organisations can learn from, and adopt, these recommendations. #neurodiversityatwork #neuroinclusion #southafrica #includeme

It has been a tremendous privilege to compile the Buckland Review of Autism Employment and to hear from hundreds of autistic people about their experiences. This is all about them, and we couldn’t have done it without their help. You can find out more about my work and read the review here: 👀👇 https://lnkd.in/esAwZrhZ

This week is World Autism Acceptance Week. Did you know that: → Less than 1 in 5 autistic adults work full time. → Overall, only 32% of autistic adults are in some kind of paid work. → 60% of employers did not know where to go for support or advice about employing an autistic person. This week marks a significant moment for fostering understanding, appreciation, and most importantly, acceptance of autism worldwide. Let's celebrate the unique strengths and perspectives that individuals on the autism spectrum bring to our communities and workplaces. At the Fairness, Inclusion & Respect Programme, we support companies and professionals within the built environment sector to better understand autism and how to best support autistic colleagues. ❗ Autism Acceptance Week 2024❗ The National Autism Society reports that only 29% of people with autism are in any form of employment and autistic people face many discriminations, including within recruitment and employment. Organisations and the media are starting to have more conversations around neurodiversity within the workplace, however the conversations typically focus on the challenges neurodiverse employees face without consideration of the unique strengths they bring to the workplace. As Business Psychologists, we adopt a strengths-based approach and recognise that everyone has unique strengths that they can utilise in the workplace. Benefits of a strengths-based approach include: - Help establish an understanding, appreciation and value of what makes employees unique👏 - Identify ways in which neurodiverse people can use their strengths to tackle challenges they face 🎯 - Promote psychological safety for all employees 🤝 To seek support, or see how you can support autistic people in the workplace, visit the National Autistic Society here: https://buff.ly/2I1DYqH #AutismAcceptanceWeek #WAAW24 #SpectrumColourWalk
