Comment | The Office for National Statistics (ONS) estimated that the number of people on UK payrolls fell by 35,000 to 30.4 million between October and November. The number of vacancies also fell by 31,000 to 818,000 in the three months to November. Commenting, James Cockett, senior labour market economist for the CIPD said: “Employers face tough waters ahead with rising employment costs as a result of the Budget, compounded with a raft of changes in the Employment Rights Bill. “We can expect rising prices and job losses, as firms plan for the next financial year. We urge the UK government not to lose sight of smaller businesses in particular, who are likely to be disproportionately affected by the cumulative impact of these changes, and require more support, advice and guidance in implementing many of the proposals." #NationalGriefAwarenessWeek | Are you doing enough to support employees who are struggling with grief? Explore our guidance on compassionate bereavement support ⬇️.
We know that death, bereavement and grief are subjects that are often not talked about enough in our workplaces, as Claire McCartney explains in our latest short video. Claire talks about the important steps employers can take to support their people through such a deeply distressing time in their lives. We're pleased to see that the Government is spotlighting bereavement leave in the Employment Rights Bill - this is something we called for, and worked with other key charities and bodies to help achieve, such as Lucy H. and Cruse Bereavement Support. From supporting open conversations to recognising the unique grief experiences people are going through, it’s crucial as employers, people professionals, managers and colleagues we offer and signpost healing and support. 💞 You can access resources to help here from the Good Grief Trust: https://ow.ly/2nTy50UkLZB and also guidance on compassionate bereavement support from the CIPD: https://ow.ly/OtxX50UkLZz #GriefAwareness #MentalHealthMatters #HealingTogether #EmotionalWellbeing #GoodGriefTrust #ShiningALight

#Skills | Bolder action from the UK Government is needed to help more young people access opportunities to earn and learn, as new CIPD data shows just 6% of 16-24-year-olds are studying for an #apprenticeship. The research also found that many employers have poor perceptions of young people at work, with two-thirds (64%) saying young people often lack important social skills in the workplace, while 71% think they don’t always know how to behave at work.
