Staff engagement in care homes: Proven strategies from the King's Fund In the ever-evolving landscape of the care home sector, staff engagement remains a pivotal factor for success. The King's Fund has been at the forefront of research, offering invaluable insights into effective strategies. But which ones have truly made a difference? One standout strategy is the emphasis on **personal development and training**. The King's Fund highlights that continuous learning opportunities not only enhance skills but also boost morale. Care home staff who feel invested in are more likely to stay motivated and committed. This approach has shown a marked improvement in staff retention rates across the UK. Another key strategy is fostering **open communication and feedback**. According to the King's Fund, creating an environment where staff feel heard and valued can significantly improve job satisfaction. Regular meetings, anonymous feedback channels, and transparent decision-making processes are just a few ways care homes have successfully implemented this strategy. Lastly, the importance of **recognition and reward** cannot be overstated. The King's Fund's research indicates that acknowledging staff contributions through awards, bonuses, or simple thank-you notes can go a long way in maintaining high levels of engagement. This strategy has been particularly effective in boosting morale and fostering a positive workplace culture. What strategies have you found most effective in your care home? My Walk on Wednesday took me along Sydney Harbour this morning. There’s something grounding about the city meeting the sea, especially when life feels so hectic. I keep coming back to this line from 4000 Weeks: “The point isn’t to control every moment but to cherish it.” These walks remind me to let go of the need to fill every minute and just enjoy what’s right here. Anyone else finding ways to slow down and be present? Overhaul HASAWA to shift workforce safety attitudes, study finds 🔽 The survey of over 1,000 workers, canvassing 750 employees and 250 managers, was taken across verticals including transport, construction and manufacturing. In it, nine in ten workers believe the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, which came into force nearly 50 years ago, is no longer relevant in a world of work changed significantly since the pandemic and shifting attitudes towards mental health. #news #healthandsafety https://lnkd.in/gD_w6dYV

Continuing my series of posts on the BSHR Rethinking Repairs and Maintenance guidance, today I am thinking about how we ensure frontline maintenance colleagues have the skills needed to 'make every contact count'. Maintenance colleagues have great, practical, goal-orientated skills but they are increasingly thrust into situations that require knowledge of issues like safeguarding, mental and physical wellbeing, and reasonable adjustments. The expectations on our maintenance colleagues are weighing heavy and I wonder if they are being given the support they need. Working with tenants and residents to provide skills sessions, examples of how to respond in common situations and tips on managing reasonable adjustments could make a world of difference to both colleagues and tenants and residents. Maintenance colleagues would feel more confident in their interactions, getting the best from more situations and ensuring our tenants and residents know they are in excellent hands. As ever, Tentacles can work with you and your tenants and residents to make this happen. Get in touch if you'd like to discuss in more detail. #TentaclesConsultancy #BSHR #RepairsAndMaintenance #ColleagueSupport #LoveYourMaintenanceTeam

Fantastic day yesterday discussing our strategy for our next business year and getting excited for what’s to come 🙌 #HR #OD #Consultancy #Strategy
What a fabulous team day had yesterday 🙌 thank you everyone! We kicked off our session, set in the wonderful surroundings of Howbery Business Park and built into our strategy for next year all our findings from the CIPD Festival of Work event. We then trotted off to Five Little Pigs and had the most fabulous food, before heading out for a bit of OxTrail fun in support of Sobell House Hospice before the rain kicked in! 😂 #itsallaboutthepeople #strategicplanning #HR #OD #Consultants #teamtogetherness #weloveoxfordshire 💚
