That’s according to Cresencio Celaya, leader of transportation strategy and planning at Arizona Public Service Company (APS). Headquartered in Phoenix, APS provides energy to approximately 1.4 million homes and businesses in 11 Arizona counties. “Our transportation fleet’s conversion to more fuel-efficient vehicles and electrification is driven by monitoring and evaluating options,” Celaya said. “Once vehicles and equipment that can meet our different operational needs are commercially available, we compare their projected total cost of ownership to traditional internal combustion engine-powered units.” For example, among the factors that are considered for electric vehicles at APS are fuel consumption on a per-gallon equivalent basis, available rebates for EV adoption and upfitting and maintenance costs. For most vehicles, Celaya related, the analyses are based on a projected ten-year lifecycle.
