Austin is eyeing some exciting changes to Congress Avenue! The Congress Avenue Urban Design Initiative aims to create a more pedestrian-friendly street and solidify the area as Austin’s “Main Street.” They are proposing that the blocks between 7th and 11th streets be transformed into public plazas, and vehicular traffic would end north of 7th Street. This space would be transformed into a community hub with art installations, live music performances, and pop-up exhibits. Other aspects of the plan include painting the asphalt with murals, replacing angles parking zones with wooden decks, and improving tree health! 🥇 FIRST 22·26 BUILDING IN GERMANY 🧱 Professor Gerd Jäger, head of our Berlin office, recently took the microphone. The occasion was a happy one: the foundation stone for the Kornelius Forum in Berlin's Wedding district was laid in the presence of church and local celebrities. Even more pleasing: "This new building is the first building in Germany to be constructed according to the 22·26 principle," explains Gerd Jäger. The climate-friendly new building largely manages almost without heating, mechanical ventilation and cooling. The name is derived from the feel-good temperature of 22 to 26 degrees Celsius. This building design method significantly reduces construction and energy costs. A particularly long service life and recyclability as a contribution to climate-friendly construction are guaranteed. The church administration office is expected to move in by 2025 on a site where the Kornelius church and a kindergarten are located, with apartments on the fourth floor and a café and seminar rooms on the first floor of the 4,634 m² gross floor area. The new building impresses with its clear order and the rhythm of closed and open wall surfaces. The exterior walls are made of solid brickwork and red-colored scratched plaster, which is created using traditional craftsmanship. Narrow, floor-to-ceiling windows, hinged on the inside of the wall, lend the building a special plasticity and identity. Configured as a solitaire in terms of urban planning, it is the appropriateness, authenticity and statement that give the building its special value. Christoph Stäblein, Bishop of the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia (EKBO), also explained the relationship of Principle 22·26 to the church's faith at the laying of the foundation stone: "It will be a thoroughly climate-friendly building for all generations. 🌟 The photo contest "Capture Your City 2024" receives a record number of entries 🌟 From Residential Blocks in Riga to Urban Spaces in Denmark, to Turin's Blue Mountains. Danish Architecture Center (Dansk Arkitektur Center)’s (DAC) photo contest, "Capture Your City 2024," in collaboration with the EU project Desire an Irresistible Circular Society and Realdania, has achieved historic high participation with over 8,000 submitted photos from cities across Europe. This record number of 8,015 entries from 26 countries demonstrates the contest's growing popularity and Europe’s commitment to architecture and urban development. The international jury faced a significant challenge in judging the thousands of submitted photos before selecting the final images for the exhibition. The judging took place at a meeting in Copenhagen start May. The final images, including the winning photos, will be announced when the exhibition "Capture Your City 2024 – A New Beauty" opens on June 6 at Bryghuspladsen. See more in the graphic below. "Although all participating European cities have beautiful, old city centres, they were not the focus of Capture Your City this year. Instead, this year's theme ‘A New Beauty’ led photographers across Europe to capture train stations, industrial ports, construction cranes, and other places where contrasts meet in the cities. Another recurring motif we've seen in the submitted photos is the intersection between nature and urban environments. Weeds sprouting up, the wild garden next to the tamed, climbing plants overtaking building facades, the mountains and the city, etc. It has been inspiring to get an 'insider' look into 50 European cities that are not just the traditional tourist photos," says Kika Krista Kjærside, Program Manager at the Danish Architecture Center. In following posts we will see some unfinished Works of Zaha Hadid Architecture Zaha is considered to be one of the most talented architects of our time, and the late architect has left a legacy that is showcased in a concentrated way in the works of her studio.These works deviated from the general architectural style and became iconic elements in the global skyline.When we explore her genius, however, we find not only indelible imprints in her built structures, but equally extraordinary creativity in her unrealized concepts; These concepts may just be too far ahead of their time. 1- 20th Century Museum, Berlin, Germany Zaha Hadid's 2016 proposal aims to revolutionise the architectural landscape of Berlin, while at the same time harmonizing it with the adjacent Neue Nationale Galerie. The ribbed structure of the 20th Century Museum uses the structural logic of natural organisms to find the lightest solution. It extends to the glass curtain wall, allowing passers-by to get a glimpse of the interior showroom. While pursuing efficiency, the proposal remains visually striking, with smooth reflective surfaces and smooth curves that demonstrate Hadid's love of exploring new spatial compositions.
