Some of our team members recently volunteered at the SF-Marin Food Bank, helping provide meals to others in our area. This #GivingTuesday, we’re reflecting on the power of community and the impact we can make when we come together.

Sharing from Kayleigh Silver, LSW 's letter in this month's #YourWayHome newsletter: "...The truth is, no one chooses to be homeless. Often, it’s a result of circumstances beyond a person’s control, such as job loss, health crises, or the rising cost of living. While the challenges facing us are immense, so too is the power of community... If you are interested in getting more involved, or learning how to help, here are a few ways: · Support the Your Way Home Fund: grant support to the various organizations in the image above that provide housing and relief to people experiencing homelessness · Become a Continuum of Care Member: Membership in the Your Way Home Continuum of Care (CoC) is free and open to any person or organization committed to ending and preventing homelessness in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. By becoming a member, you will have the opportunity to share your ideas for improving the Your Way Home crisis response system at community meetings, receive funding and news announcements, vote for Governance Board Members, and more. · Donate or Volunteer at a Montgomery County Food Pantry: By leading coordinated action, the MontCo Anti-Hunger Network (MAHN) strengthens the food security safety net system in Montgomery County." https://lnkd.in/eFNkKXSc

People often say they don't know how we do it. That is how you #survive. You don't stop trying. An idea doesn't work? Come up with another one! An unexpected block? Figure out a way around it! Couldn't get it done today? Tomorrow is another day! We #WILLNOTSTOP because #Lives are at stake!! We have the current privilege, like so many others, to ignore this plight. But - you don't give up. If you give up, you die. If we give up, young people will die. That is not hyperbole. This is statistical #fact. Within 48 hours of running from home, youth are #trafficked. That is why #SafeHaven laws were created in 1974, which decriminalized running away and established Basic Center Programs to ensure #Safe Housing during crisis. The reason for #crisis does not matter. It only matters that #HelpIsThereWhenYouNeedIt. Please, #HelpMe. #Donate even just 1$. Any help with financial and professional service is more than we have now. Join our Boards and help us get this done!! And #EveryDollar is another step closer to the restoration of runaway Safe Haven for two of NJ's biggest counties after a 16-year absence. https://lnkd.in/guWFDpgJ #LetsBeTheChange #Together #Grassroots #Community #EndYouthHomelessness

18th July, Mandela Day, people should be encouraged to dedicate 67 minutes to community service, honoring Nelson Mandela's 67 years of public service. Some specific ways individuals can give back to their communities: 1. Help at Local Shelters: Spend time assisting at homeless shelters or food banks. This could involve preparing and serving meals, organizing donations, or simply providing company to those in need. 2. Community Clean-Up Drives: Organize or join efforts to clean parks, streets, lakes or beaches. This helps create a cleaner, safer environment and fosters community spirit. 3.Educational Support: Volunteer at local schools or libraries. Offer tutoring services, read to children, or help organize educational events. 4. Visit the Elderly: Spend time with elderly people in nursing homes or in your neighborhood or Old age homes.Engage in conversations, help with chores, or organize a small event to brighten their day. Giving back to your community is indeed important. It fosters a sense of connection, helps to improve the quality of life for others, and can provide personal fulfillment. Contributing time, resources, or expertise can strengthen community bonds, support local initiatives, and create a more supportive and resilient environment. Whether through volunteering, supporting local businesses, or participating in community events, every effort can make a significant impact towards Equality. #DEI#Equality#CommunityService# volunteering #Community bond#Connections#improvedquality of life#personalgoals#fulfillment#gratitude #givingback#peace #buildequalsociety#beautifulsafespaces

The people that our local community kitchens support are not just "homeless people". Community kitchens and food banks are the back bones of our community that support all those in need of support. Many of our nations veterans and elders, children and hardworking single parents use the kitchen to fill the gaps. Not only fill the gaps, but for some the weekly food boxes and nightly meals are all they have to survive. With rising costs of living with everything from the gas we use to go to work, to the boots we pull ourselves up with food kitchens are in demand. The demand is something that is hard to keep up with on fixed budgets and limited donations. In the coming weeks that demand will increase as youth will be home more as school lets out. The meals once provided in the school system now fall on the already stretched budgets of the average American household. Lets do what we can to empower and have compassion to gain awareness about who uses the food kitchens and what we can do to help. Even if it's just slinging a few boxes of tomatoes to help out during a deliver. It is a step. #giveback #volunteer #communitywork #foodpantry #careergrowth #personalgrowth #investment #leadership #communityleadership #leadershipdevelopment

What a talk from Feeding America. Top three questions.
As we celebrate #PrideMonth this June Feeding America's CEO Claire Babineaux-Fontenot had the opportunity to sit down with Care for Real's Executive Director, Gregory Gross. Care for Real is a non-profit in Chicago that aims to foster a healthy and equitable community by helping neighbors and families overcome food insecurity with dignity. Watch as Claire and Gregory discuss three questions on food insecurity, the LGBTQIA2S+ community, and what gives Gregory hope in his work and mission to #endhunger.

Here are some great activities you can do to celebrate National Neighbor Day and build stronger community connections: Host a Block Party: Invite your neighbors for a fun, casual get-together with food, music, and games to foster camaraderie. Organize a Community Clean-Up: Work together to tidy up shared spaces like parks, sidewalks, or gardens, enhancing the neighborhood's beauty. Game Night or Movie Marathon: Host a game night or outdoor movie marathon for the neighborhood to bond over some light-hearted fun. Share Baked Goods or Homemade Treats: Whip up some cookies or muffins and share them with your neighbors as a simple act of kindness. Start a Book Exchange or Little Free Library: Set up a little free library where neighbors can share and exchange books they’ve enjoyed. Organize a Charity Drive: Collect clothes, food, or other items for a local charity, bringing the community together for a good cause. ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ #TheHelffrichGroup #KarenAndMike #HowardHanna #realestate #realtors #realestateteam #realestateohio #realestateagent #neighbors #neighborhood #community

A message from our Trustees and staff. In light of the disorder and violence seen across the country over the last week, Croydon Voluntary Actions wants to reach out to our communities and beyond. Like so many others, we have been appalled by the racist violence that has been used to terrorise communities across the UK. The roots of this hatred and intimidation lie deep in our society - fed and exploited over many years. However, what has become even more apparent this last week is how individual and community acts of love, care, and resistance have challenged, with such apparent confidence, any drift into believing that we are anything but united against hatred, intolerance and division. The strength of Croydon is in the diversity of this great borough and our message is clear that we are united against hatred, intolerance and division. People or the organisations we work alongside will not stand for these challenges to community cohesion. Charities, community groups and faith organisations will not bow down to threats. We already work hand in hand delivering social change, improving people’s lives, and responding to emergencies - and we will continue to do so to defeat those responsible for these horrific acts. #strongertogether
