🐨 Landholders - Koalas need your help 🐨 This is your opportunity to leave a legacy for future generations by protecting koala habitat on your land. We are currently identifying properties in the Northern Rivers that may be eligible for a private land Conservation Agreement over a portion of their land. The area under agreement is registered on the title in perpetuity, thus securing these populations into the future. This requires a minimum of 20ha of intact native forest in moderate to good condition. Up to $45,000 of habitat restoration funding is delivered through Envite Environment, a local not-for-profit organisation which provides ecological restoration and bush regeneration services. Eligible activities include: weed control, revegetation, fencing, nest box installation and repairs to existing features such as tracks to maintain the conservation area. This is in addition to discounts on rates and land taxes. If you would like an initial site visit to discuss the criteria and eligible activities, Fiona Dawson from Envite would love to hear from you: Fiona Dawson | Envite Environment Koala Habitat Restoration Ecologist 0427 957 277 | fionad@envite.org.au Visit our website to find out more: https://lnkd.in/gedYRd3h This project is delivered in partnership with: WWF-Australia Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water Threatened Species Commissioner Biodiversity Conservation Trust #BushRegeneration #SaveTheKoala #Conservation #ThreatenedSpecies #EndangeredSpecies #Biodiversity

Today, on World Environment Day, we’re definitely part of #GenerationRestoration. Queensland’s expanding network of protected areas – whether national parks, conservation reserves, special wildlife reserves, Indigenous Protected Areas or other private protected areas – smooths the process of restoring wild landscapes and providing biodiversity and ecosystem benefits. Australia is committed to transforming an interconnected mosaic of landscapes that will cover 30% of the landmass by 2030, and NPAQ’s decades long push to increase Queensland’s safe havens is gaining effect with the recent announcement of a second special wildlife reserve in Queensland. “Protecting and regenerating habitat isn’t just good for the land – studies show that it’s good for us and for economies, too. Statistics from this year’s World Environment Day focus on global economic benefits, but here at NPAQ, we’re exploring the full range of ecosystem services that protected areas generate for Queensland,” says NPAQ CEO Chris Thomas. “We hope to complete that research soon, to help demonstrate just how valuable expanding and restoring the state’s protected areas will be.” Find out more and be part of #GenerationRestoration at https://buff.ly/459Vipv. #WorldEnvironmentDay #ecosystemservices #protectedareas

We Are Protecting The Ocean Wrong. Dr. David Shiffman's recent article in “The Revelator” explores the inconsistencies in marine protected area (MPA) management and what truly counts as effectively "protected." Highlighting research from Marine Conservation Institute, Shiffman underscores our finding that many of the world's largest MPAs, despite being listed as protected, lack effective implementation and robust protections. Our study, published in “Conservation Letters”, reveals that one-quarter of the largest 100 MPAs exist only on paper, with no on-the-water protections. There is an urgent need for well-designed, science-based MPAs to achieve genuine biodiversity conservation. The process of returning land, resources, and cultural heritage to Indigenous communities brings numerous benefits, including supporting the conservation of lands for climate resilience and biodiversity. We’re working with the Penobscot Nation to return about 30,000 acres located within the heart of the Nation’s ancestral hunting and fishing territories, known as Wáhsehtəkʷ. Read about how this stewardship of the land will benefit all: https://lnkd.in/eCykSqtC

Pristine bushland is being bulldozed at Lee Point/Binybara owing to a lack of available data, weak federal nature laws and the denial of a fair say for Larrakia First Nations peoples and the broader community. Australia's lack of genuine community involvement in environmental decision-making has serious ongoing impacts, and Lee Point is a textbook example. It is driving a wildlife extinction crisis, destroying globally important ecosystems, and people are left to suffer the consequences. Reforms to Australia's nature laws are urgently needed. When decision-makers are required to listen to the community, culturally significant sites and habitat for critically endangered species like the world famous Gouldian finch can be saved from destruction. #environment #LeePoint #deforestation #landclearing #NatureLaws

🌿🦘 Explore the hidden gem of conservation at The Quoin! Nestled in the heart of the Tasmanian Midlands, this property is not just a haven for breathtaking landscapes but also a lifeline for endangered wildlife like the elusive Eastern barred bandicoot (Perameles gunnii). We're thrilled to announce that The Quoin, this iconic conservation property, is now a Registered Account to support a mission to protect and enhance our precious natural environment! 📋 Account Name: The Quoin 🔖 Account ID: AU00065 📍Location: Midlands, Tasmania 🌏 Area: 4,985 ha 🌳 Assets: Native Vegetation, Terrestrial Mammals, Aquatic Fauna The Wedgetail Foundation is behind this account to champion biodiversity conservation and restoration. They invest and support global initiatives dedicated to protecting our natural world. 🌱 This Environmental Account aims to document the condition of three key environmental assets at The Quoin: Native Vegetation, Terrestrial Mammals, and Aquatic Fauna. As they transition from a grazing enterprise to conservation-focused land management, they will adopt environmental accounting to establish a baseline of environmental conditions for their assets. This will involve using three existing Accredited Methods from the Accounting for Nature® Method Catalogue. This baseline will help guide their evolving program of restoration and stewardship, ensuring a brighter future for the beloved Tasmanian Midlands. 💚🌿 Thank you, Wedgetail, for adopting the Accounting for Nature® Framework. Our precious wetlands... The Federal Government will protect the Toondah Harbour (Moreton Bay) Ramsar site from an inappropriate development proposal by the Walker Corporation. The proposal would have seen the loss of 50ha of critical wetlands and coastal habitats for shops, housing and a marina. Australia is the world's driest inhabited continent, and we are fortunate to have a network of more than 70 Ramsar-listed wetlands, recognised internationally for their contribution to the conservation of global biodiversity. The best hope for coastal wetlands, and the species dependent upon them, is to protect them now so they can respond and adapt to projected sea level rises. We must not lose our precious wetlands. https://lnkd.in/gmp5JBz3

Are you passionate about sustainability and keen to understand how biodiversity financing can drive impactful change? Join us for the "Sustainable Finance in Action" programme, where we deep dive into critical topics like biodiversity financing. Conservation Law Foundation highlighted that mangrove wetlands, are essential for maintaining biodiversity, improving water quality, and protecting coastlines from erosion and storm surges. Despite covering only 6% of the Earth's surface, wetlands are home to 40% of all plant and animal species. https://lnkd.in/ghezSUcd Sustainable finance plays a crucial role in preserving these vital ecosystems through mechanisms like carbon credits. By investing in carbon credits, companies can offset their carbon emissions and support projects that protect and restore wetlands. Our programme includes a visit to the mangrove wetlands to gain firsthand insights into their ecological significance and understand how sustainable finance can drive real-world environmental impact. Our programme is supported by ERM, the world's largest pure-play sustainability consultancy. Their expertise will guide us in understanding and implementing effective biodiversity financing strategies. 📅 25-28 November 2024 📍 SMU Administration Building 🔗Register now - https://shorturl.at/pZoss Spaces are limited, so secure your spot today to avoid disappointment.
