In many organizations, the reputation of HR unit is undoubtedly at stake among the employees. This may have been influenced by stakeholders' varying needs and past experiences with HR services. This could range from line managers demanding faster recruitment to employees seeking to compensating in a less structured manner as well as seeking a rather responsive HR support. HR professionals often find themselves navigating conflicting expectations. HR may also be challenged of not being recognized for its contributions and expertise, leading to a perception of a thankless profession. HR can however improve its reputation by focusing on establishing credibility rather than seeking affirmation. This can be done by clarifying stakeholder expectations, legitimizing the HR function within the organization, setting clear standards for HR solutions, sharing success stories, building essential skills and competencies, and balancing investments in HR with desired outcomes. By taking these proactive steps, HR can enhance its reputation, earn credibility, and drive positive business outcomes.
