Worried about the authenticity of your charity film? At The Saltways, we ensure that we capture your story authentically and organically. One of the ways we do this is to not use using slow motion. Less production. More truth. We also embrace the unexpected, which allows the raw truth to emerge, taking the pressure off of you and leading to a more enaging film.

You may have decided the message and the purpose of your charity film, but how do you decide who is going to tell their story? The truth is you don't have to decide straightaway and the storyteller may change as your project goes on anyways. 🤷 One thing we've learnt through charity filmmaking is to be flexible! Look at all of your charity stories from all angles and you can experiment with different interpretation’s of your message. Ultimately, this will give you a better chance of choosing that perfect story! Are you taking on the brave task of creating your own charity film? Here's a few tips from us on how to make sure you keep your film ethical and authentic. Do: Show Respect ✅ Being in front of a camera can be nerve-wracking - especially for those sharing a vulnerable story. By showing storytellers respect through gaining their informed consent and providing them with the freedom and comfort to tell their story, you're creating a safe atmosphere and contributing to the kindness and respect within the charity sector. Don't: Force Sympathy ❌ Would you contribute to a project that you felt was slightly manipulative? Of course not. So you shouldn't allow your audiences to feel that way either. Adding heavy production to films can take away from the essence of the story. Themes of empowerment and pride can have a more lasting impact on viewers and is a lot more ethical too!
