The world is buzzing about the advantages of #artificialintelligence (AI), considered the 4th industrial revolution. Some of the benefits are undeniable, but many of the risks are unquestionable. First and foremost is the immense threat to #creators, #artists, #authors and #rightholders. Many AI models are trained using vast data sets, which often include #music, #images, #texts and other creative content taken from the internet. This material, created by artists and authors, is incorporated into AI systems without the consent or remuneration of the original creators, which represents a form of unauthorized use of their works. A blatant violation of copyright rules. Currently, artists and authors cannot control how their works are used to train AI models. Without explicit permission, this content can be manipulated or reinterpreted in ways that go against the creators' original vision, which diminishes the value and integrity of their creations. The letter below, signed by creators and rightsholder organisations calls for a meaningful implementation of the AI Act to enable creators and rightholders to exercise and enforce their rights when it comes to ingesting and copying copyright-protected works for training by AI models.
