After an incredible journey transitioning to a new organization and great team, I’ve had the opportunity to meet brilliant minds and dive into exciting projects that align deeply with my values. 💡🌱 One of these projects is Disruptive Seeds, a groundbreaking initiative focused on transforming our food systems. 🌍🚜 When we think of seeds, we often imagine agriculture, soil, and the tools that feed us. But Disruptive Seeds is about more than that—it’s a powerful metaphor for the innovative ideas, people, and movements challenging the unsustainable systems that currently dominate food production and community structures. 🌱💡✨ As we look to the future, it’s clear that we need to do more than just critique what isn’t working. We need to envision and work towards the future we want. 🔮🌍 This project is about co-creating pathways toward a just, sustainable food system—developing scenarios that help us build frameworks for a more equitable world. 🌱💪 Much like how seeds need care and nurturing, so do the transformative ideas and actions disrupting these entrenched systems. It’s been energizing to collaborate with so many inspiring individuals and explore what a fair and sustainable future can truly look like. 🌿🤝 The journey may involve challenges, from legal battles to societal shifts, but together, we’re planting the seeds of change. 🌍 First Day of #ClimateWeekNYC: The Role of Collaboration in Helping Drive Long-Term Value Creation The day began with the Principles for Responsible Investment Signatory & Stakeholder Convening, where we explored how investors and asset owners are addressing climate action amidst growing political and market pressures. David Atkin and Cambria Allen Ratzlaff emphasized the need for engagement with policymakers to drive long-term change. A key theme that emerged was the importance of structuring more investment opportunities and mobilizing capital to accelerate this transition. This will likely be a central focus throughout Climate Week, as investors seek ways to fund initiatives more efficiently. 📈 Later, at the Regen House Stone Soup event, we examined how collaboration across the supply chain is critical to transforming the global food system. Dorothy Shaver from Unilever highlighted that food agriculture accounts for 30% of global emissions, 60% of areas that grow wheat are already subject to drought, and climate change has resulted in a 37% reduction in tomato yields. These numbers demonstrate the urgent need for climate resilience in the agriculture and food industry. 🌾 Chef Pierre Thiam reminded us that ingredients are not mere commodities; they are tied to cultural heritage, biodiversity, and sustainable agriculture practices. Regenerative agriculture, long practiced in localized communities, provides a blueprint for the future of farming. We discussed how to scale these sustainable innovations and align capital toward regenerative practices that offer long-term value for both investors and society. 🌱

I had the privilege of attending New York Climate Week 🌍 where I engaged in thought-provoking discussions on two critical topics that I don't work with on a day-to-day basis: 1. Mobilizing Capital for the Green Transition in Emerging and Developing Markets ⚡ 2. Driving Change at Global Scale: Industry’s Role in Fostering Regenerative Practices in Agriculture 🌾 These sessions underscored to me, the interconnection between a just energy transition and the imperative of evolving a sustainable food security. As emerging markets strive for a greener future, the mobilization of capital becomes essential to fuel renewable energy projects that not only reduce emissions but also empower local communities. Simultaneously, the role of industry in promoting regenerative agricultural practices cannot be overstated. By adopting methods that restore soil health and enhance biodiversity, we can create a more resilient food system that meets the nutritional needs of a growing global population. The synergy between clean energy and sustainable agriculture is clear: advancing one accelerates progress in the other. A holistic approach ensures that environmental sustainability goes hand-in-hand with economic development and food security. My key takeaway was that to achieve meaningful change at a global scale, cross-sector collaboration between the private sector and public sector is vital. By aligning financial incentives with sustainable initiatives in both energy and agriculture, we can foster a regenerative and more equitable future. "The need for collaboration and empowerment. Addressing these challenges effectively requires collaboration between the public and private sector, employing a process that is inclusive and empowering. 👉 Ensuring that the farmers involved have a voice and equal benefits as active stakeholders, not just as beneficiaries. With this in mind, SNV initiated the Café-REDD project, a collaborative effort supported by the International Climate Initiative (IKI). This project has established a public, private, and producer partnerships (👉 4Ps) to reduce deforestation and forest degradation in Lac Duong district which comprises the Lang Biang UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve in Vietnam’s Central Highlands. 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗨𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀🌱 Sustainable cities are incorporating green (agricultural) belts closer to where people live, creating a framework that increases the livability of cities, creates jobs, and reduces the carbon footprint to a bare minimum. Re-thinking and planning for the future, cities are using green areas for food production through controlled environment agriculture and protected cropping. 🍎 The current methods of food production and distribution are at a critical crossroads. The climate crisis, combined with the significant pressures our existing food systems place on land, the environment, and public health, underscores an urgent need for change—one that cannot wait for tomorrow. 🍃 The Netherlands is a prime example, as the first food production metropolis that exports food all over the world. We selected a story of Greengrounds, who see these challenges not just as threats but as unique opportunities for reinvention. 💡

❓ Did food transformation take a main stage at NYC climate week this year? You bet your ‘sweet potato’ it did. 🌱 I wrote an article for ETF Central on how food systems transformation was on the menu in a big way at this year’s Climate Week in NYC. Talks centered around a Systems Shift via 1. Financing food fast for a short-term impact with 2. Sustainable, plant-focused, regenerative practices. 3. Food insecurity as a growing concern, and 4. The price of our current extractive system: biodiversity loss and natural resources depletion. I explain how the food system will evolve and the practices, innovations and technologies that will get us there. Plus, I detail the enormous and quickly emerging business opportunity. This convention brings together companies of all sizes and geographic origins from the agricultural and food-processing sector, focusing on a common goal: to tackle environmental challenges and accelerate the transition to a regenerative economy. Over the course of 6 sessions spread over 9 months, participants join forces to devise concrete, powerful and collaborative solutions for the sustainable transformation of agriculture and food-processing. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲.
