Today #COP29 conversations are winding down and while the discussions have ended, the real question remains: what concrete actions will follow and how do these align with the urgent need for #just, #equitable, and #inclusive solutions? 🌱 The climate crisis impacts everyone, but not equally. It’s essential that all voices are heard and respected in the path forward - especially those voices from communities on the frontlines and communities that have been marginalized. We’re eager to see whose voices were truly heard and how the commitments made will shape our collective future. 🌎 The Fight for a Regenerative Future: Centering Indigenous Leadership & Ocean Solutions 🌊 As an Oceanic Global Ambassador, Bodhi Patil continues to amplify the voices of Indigenous stewards, youth leaders, and grassroots movements in the fight against climate change. At COP29, Bodhi highlighted the urgent need for stronger climate finance mechanisms and inclusion of ocean-based solutions, stating: "The ocean, Indigenous stewards, and young innovators are our planet’s greatest hope. Investing in Indigenous-led ocean solutions is not just necessary—it’s an opportunity to build a more resilient, nature-based economy." He called for: 🌿 Proper financing of Indigenous stewardship to uplift undervalued but impactful solutions. 🌊 Strengthening the ocean-climate nexus in global policies. 🤝 Intergenerational collaboration to unite ancestral knowledge with modern innovation. As Bodhi shared: "We cannot operate within extractive petro-masculine systems. It falls on youth, Indigenous leaders, and frontline communities to push beyond Net Zero—towards Real Zero—and co-create a regenerative future." Here is my take on #cop29 climate summit : I want to live in a world where real change isn’t just a dream but our daily reality. A world where all the gatherings—the WEFs, UN forums, COPs, and all the conferences—actually start doing instead of just talking. Where action takes the stage, and empty promises are a thing of the past. A world where we challenge the way we think, dismantle broken systems, and come together to make our planet a better place—for everyone. I have two daughters, and I’m scared. Scared of the world we’re building for them. Right now, it feels like we’re sabotaging ourselves—competing instead of collaborating, tearing each other down instead of lifting each other up. We’ve created a culture that pits communities, cities, and even colleagues against each other to see who’s doing “better.” But what if we could move beyond competition and create space for everyone to thrive? What if the best didn’t mean the most ruthless, but the most compassionate, innovative, and inclusive? I want to live in a world where my daughters don’t have to drink water polluted from glyphosate. Where they can eat food that nourishes them without needing me to comb through ingredient lists for hidden sugars and chemicals. A world where we’ve stopped poisoning ourselves and the planet. I want to feel proud of us as humans—not ashamed. I want to live in a world where love, compassion, and respect guide our actions. A world where every voice matters, where differences are celebrated, and where acceptance is the norm—not the exception. I had a dream that this time is now. That we are entering an era of profound transformation. A time when collaboration replaces division, and love outshines fear. Let’s make it happen. 2024 is predicted to be the hottest year on record. Never before has the need for global unity in addressing the #ClimateCrisis been more urgent. #COP29 presented a critical opportunity for progress, but global leaders failed to scale climate funding to the levels urgently needed, to provide concrete plans for phasing out fossil fuels, and to uphold the rights of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities. World leaders must act with urgency to secure a livable planet for future generations. "Another Year, Another Climate Week... Now What?" Yet Again, The Climate Week NYC 2024 is just around the corner (Sept 22-29), gathering all the world's leaders, corporations, and activists to #yetagain talk about saving the planet. 🌎 Don’t get me wrong, it's great to see so many passionate people in one place... But do we really need #yetanothersummit to tell us what we already know? 🧐 With every year that passes, the temperature rises and so do the promises, but action? Still playing catch-up. While we engage in panel discussions and sign pledges, maybe it's time to stop talking about "accelerating" change and actually start doing it. The planet isn't waiting for another keynote speech! 🌱 Shout out to organizations like UNFCCC-WGEO Regional Collaboration Centre (RCC) MENA and SA WWF CDP ESG Forum NetZero for continuing the fight. 🏙️Earlier this week members of our ONZ team were in New York celebrating a new report launched by the Race to Zero High-Level Climate Champions on activating Professional Service Providers as key actors in getting to net zero. The report was developed in consultation and collaboration with PSPs and lays out ways that firms can provide net-zero aligned advice to leverage the significant influence they have in global economies. Moving forward, the Climate Champions Team are looking for feedback from firms operationalising the ideas within the report, so that the concept of “advised emissions” and how to manage them can continue to be iteratively developed. From ONZ, Alexis McGivern and Ranjita Rajan were co-chairs of the working group in 2023, and on Monday, Thomas Hale member of Race to Zero’s Expert Peer Review Group, and Matilda Becker represented ONZ at the report’s launch.
