📣 The Investment Climate Reform Facility, a collaborative project by SNV, GIZ, Expertise France, and the British Council, has published its 2023-2024 Annual Report! The report highlights the Facility’s impactful work on improving the business environment and investment climate across African, Caribbean, and Pacific (ACP) countries. 🎯 Key achievements within the year include: ✅ 72 ACP countries reached through various initiatives. ✅ 91 partner organisations supported to improve the business environment. ✅ 62 business environment interventions completed, with 57% focusing on promoting gender equality.  ✅ 61 Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) supported through capacity building. ✅ 183 knowledge products and 135 technical reports published.   At the ICR Facility, we believe that inclusive economies are stronger. In 2023, Maria Pascual Sánchez joins WE&B as a full-time employee. WE&B won yet another project with GGGI Africa 🌍. This time to mainstream #adaptation into subnational planning, strengthen institutional frameworks, and develop financing strategy and project concept notes for Burkina Faso’s National Adaptation Plan (#NAP) implementation. The project provides technical expertise and social engagement strategies to guide #BurkinaFaso to implement its NAP with a #gender perspective, which aims to adapt the country to the effects of #climatechange ☀️

⭐ We are delighted to announce that we are conducting a stakeholder consultation workshop 🌍 in the context of the project: "Conducting Adaptation Impact Assessments in six African countries under the Leveraging Energy Access Finance (LEAF) Framework", commissioned by the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) and in partnership with SouthSouthNorth (SSN) on September 5th, 2024, in Abuja, Nigeria, moderated by Laila Darouich.  ✅ The main objective of this workshop is to discuss the results of our Nigerian adaptation impact assessment with key stakeholders such as ministries, non-governmental organisations and decentralized renewable energy (DRE) companies and to obtain their feedback, which will be incorporated into the final version of the assessment report.  Background information 💡on the project: The African Development Bank has embarked on a crucial initiative to increase understanding of #adaptation impact of energy access solutions. As such, the Bank has engaged Perspectives Climate Group and SSN to conduct adaptation impact assessments in 🌐 Ghana, Guinea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, and Tunisia under the LEAF framework.  LEAF, developed by AfDB with the Green Climate Fund (GCF), aims to enhance access to commercial and local currency financing for DRE businesses. These include solutions like ☀️ #solar home systems, #green mini-grids, and commercial applications that boost access to clean energy and reduce GHG emissions. The program offers credit enhancement tools, such as guarantees and subordinated debt, to improve project bankability 🏦 and attract commercial investment, including from local financial institutions, along with technical assistance. To increase understanding of the adaptation benefits of DRE projects, the project team conducts country assessments which aim to confirm the prevailing climate risks in the 🎯 target geographic areas with a focus on their associated hazards, exposure and vulnerability and establish the link (if possible) between whether/how #energyaccess, provided by DRE technologies, contributes to climate change adaptation (either by making energy systems more resilient to climate impacts or by powering adaptation solutions). Additionally, guidelines will be developed on the quantification and monitoring of adaptation benefits resulting from the DRE projects where such benefits are identified. We are happy to join leading voices as we discuss innovative #ClimateFinance mechanisms and reforms necessary to mobilize resources effectively for #ClimateMitigation and adaptation. Our Regional Director Dr. Malle Fofana will be part of the virtual roundtable on "Innovative Climate Finance: Reforming Global Financial Architecture for a Sustainable Future" on June 27. Moderated by Globesight, the event will focus on bridging the existing financing gaps and enhancing the efficiency and impact of climate funds in the global financial architecture. As the UNFCCC drives efforts to establish a new climate finance goal beyond 2025, called the "New Collective Quantified Goal" (NCQG), at COP29 in Baku later this year, it is becoming increasingly clearer that the traditional funding models, such as debt, equity, and grants, have not been sufficient to close the climate finance gap. Innovative climate finance must, therefore, be further emphasized to unlock much-needed private sector capital to meet the growing demands and, at the same time, minimize risks. This virtual dialogue will convene key representatives from international organizations, financial institutions, and philanthropic organizations to discuss innovative climate financing mechanisms and reforms necessary to mobilize resources effectively for climate mitigation and adaptation, particularly in the most vulnerable regions.
