To me, successful #startups are not just vehicles for personal enrichment. They’re a societally necessary human institution that is the only way we’re going to cope with the onrushing Singularity. As a society, we should be working as hard as we can to make as many successful as we can. The collective shrug the world gives about what gets a #startup through its earliest stages baffles me. 90% of startups fail. Just the amount of wasted human and financial capital that represents as #founders (usually inexperienced but often not) bumble around in ignorance is heartbreaking. The otherwise great #entrepreneurs and ideas that burn out along the way – and the products and solutions they would otherwise have created to improve the world and our lives – makes it a full-blown tragedy. The hurdles to venture for (while not as high as they used to be) are still high for angels. Like all markets, Venture Ecosystems need balance.
