🤖 Is AI really on the fast track to matching human cognition? OpenAI's new model, o1-preview, has reportedly reached level two of their five-tier path to artificial general intelligence (#AGI). OpenAI CEO @Sam Altman envisions this journey progressing from 1. conversational AI through 2. reasoning, 3. autonomous agents, 4. innovation, 5. AI capable of running entire organizations. All by themselves. 😎 You will soon be able to put your feet up, watch Netflix and chill. Forever! 🐏 But hang on just a computational minute! Before we're all dreaming of electric sheep, we probably should talk about the C word.... 🧠 You know, the lateral, combinational, transformational, intrinsically motivated requirements of creative problem solving processes. 🧮 There is an established creativity formula. It was hard-coded by Professor Ruth Noller back in 1972 and written as: C=ƒa(K,I,E). The formula defines Creativity as the product of Knowledge, Imagination, and Evaluation, with positive Attitude being the force multiplier. Personally, I mostly rely on ChatGPT when I need it, but this session opened my eyes to a whole new range of possibilities. 🚀 With the widespread roll-out of GenAI tools, we are spoilt for choice with all the different versions available. While these tools can greatly enhance our productivity, I cannot overstate the importance of validating the output. Here's a quick comparison you can use across different tools with the classic question: "Which is heavier? A kilogram of feathers or a pound of steel?". Of the 5 different tests, only ChatGPT-4 and Copilot (Precise setting) generated the correct answer! Google Gemini even tries to be smart by explaining what the "trick" is - except it falls flat on its attempt with a whole lengthy explanation that is ultimately wrong. My personal preference is GPT-4 for the best-explained correct answer. CoPilot also fairs well but do note the difference between the "Balanced" vs "Precise" setting; a single toggle can make a huge difference in output accuracy! 🧐 As we embrace the power of Generative AI, let's also remember to apply critical thinking and verify the results. ✅ GenAI can help you up to 99% at times, but don't forget the importance of human context, experience and common sense.
