In-person tech events are such a great way to meet the awesome people we have geeked out with online previously!
Yes in-person can be a bit scary, but don't let that stop you, everyone is there to learn from each other. If you are still unsure about a specific event, ask someone in your network who has been to that event before for their feedback.
Some of my general thoughts are:
- larger events have more going on, yes you will meet more people but this can get hectic
- smaller events are better for building stronger relationships, as there is less rushing around and there is more time to really connect with others
What type of events do you like?
It’s hard to decide 🙈 So instead I will say why I am okay with both😅😂
I mostly love in-person events, but there are some great online events also that I enjoy attending. Smaller events are definitely nicer for building stronger relationships, but larger events also open many doors and bring lots of great opportunities! 👀

In-person events are amazing for connecting with like-minded people! 😊 I agree smaller events feel more personal, while larger ones are great for exposure. I love hackathons for collaborative learning. Thanks for sharing! 🙌

My favorite ones are the ones raised mostly by the community, with a mix of people and topics. Usually, they are inspiring.
We are lucky! Here in Spain, we have amazing events.

Lately, been seeing a few posts about whether IRL events are worth going, so I wanted to share....
My Journey to Building Strong Connections in Web3 & Fintech
I remember feeling stuck and lost when I first entered the Web3/Crytpo industry.
Despite attending countless events and engaging in forums, I was left with some feel-good moments and great conversations.
Even though I bonded and met many great people, something was missing.
I needed more meaningful, impactful connections to help me get ahead.
So, I tried a different approach that transformed my networking experience:
1. Identify Key Players: I listed four or five influential people in the Web3 and crypto community who inspired me. These were approachable individuals whose work I admired.
2. Recognize Their Contributions: I reflected on how each person had influenced my journey, whether through their content, projects, or interactions.
3. Explore Potential Synergies: I considered how these connections could help me advance and what value I could bring to them, aiming for a win-win scenario.
4. Offer Genuine Value: I researched their projects and found ways to contribute, whether through feedback, support, or networking.
5. Initiate Authentic Conversations: I reached out to arrange video calls or meet at IRL events, focusing on authenticity and sincerity. Meeting IRL always created a stronger bond and level of trust faster than a video call.
6. Show Appreciation and Offer Help: During our conversations, I thanked them for their support and offered my assistance in any way I could. For me it was mainly for an offer to promote them on my Podcast TheStartupVoyage.
7.Share Your Vision: I updated them on my projects and challenges, creating a deeper connection and opening the door for valuable advice.
8. Seek Their Insights: I asked for their insights on navigating Web3. Their feedback was invaluable, leaving me feeling empowered and connected.
So instead of quantity, I focused my energies on quality.
In today's world, it's crucial to create value and foster trust.
You can't win someone over with an Airdrop, it takes more time and effort.
Put simply, making others feel valued will naturally encourage positive reciprocation and trust.
Pro Tip: Always follow through on your offers to help. Even if they decline, the gesture itself builds a strong foundation for future collaboration.
Have anything to add or a different approach? Leave a comment.

Changed my mind, I'm going to conferences again! Not useless.
Over the past year, I've doubled down on events. When I first started in web3, I totally avoided all events because I thought they were a waste of time. They are a waste of time if you don't know what to do.
Events are amazing but you need to commit. Either go to all or don't go. It's one of those things that compound over time. Our first dinner was 20 people and then 2nd dinner was 30.
There's tons of parties with lots of drinking but the music is so loud you can't even talk. I think there's a group of people who want to do business and having a curated smaller group in a more intimate setting works really well.
Big numbers is good for the ego but really, small and curated is always always better.
I want to share a concept/format discussion we have had in our organization – twoHundred.
As many other event companies, we've played with the idea of blending face-to-face events with online setups – the hybrid event concept.
While these hybrids offer convenience and reach, in our eyes, they miss the heart and soul of pure face-to-face gatherings, where you truly connect with your audience – the entire audience.
The spontaneity of in-person exchanges cultivates richer interactions and genuine bonds, networking, and trust building. Something we have concluded that virtual settings struggle to capture.
Furthermore, our conversations circle round the possible situation that hybrid setups risk diluting the event's energy, leaving online participants feeling disconnected and harder to engage with – after the event.
Without that face-to-face spark, the trust-building and lasting connections are compromised. While hybrids cater to diverse needs, they can't quite replicate the magic of a fully in-person experience.
Just sharing our POV

Let the journey to transformation begin!
What was the last meetup/networking event you went to? How was it? Have you ever tried hosting? It’s way harder than you might think.
If you're struggling with attendance to your meetup or networking events, I wrote out my process for throwing successful meetup events.
I’ve been told its a bit “much” - but thats the point! Most people severely underestimate what it takes to put on a good event. My past events ranged from 300-1200 people in attendance (on a recurring basis). I’ve even had people fly in from all over the country to attend.
Why?
Cause I put the effort it takes to make the event good!
Everything below isnt rocket science - but it is work.
If you are wanting to grow your event, follow the steps below… I promise, your event will grow!
I plan on making a series of videos breaking down this roadmap, but ive found the best way to craft a good video, is to start by just riffing on the subject matter live on facebook/youtube. Then, I like to take that transcript and extract the meat, the key points, arrange everything in the correct order (when you're riffing you tend to tangent a bit), and use that as the foundation to script out a well thought out video on the subject matter.
If you would like to see that initial brain dump live, and basically treat it like an open Q/A - Mastermind call… just let me know below, and ill tag you when i do it.
If you struggle with events, and dont have the time to do all this yourself - hire Harper Belmont Media - we got you!
I feel like debunking event industry myths and starting a series.
Here's myth #1
"Virtual events are overhyped and can't compete with in-person experiences."
Virtual events became popular during the pandemic, but many believe they don’t offer the same level of engagement, energy, or networking opportunities as in-person.
My Take: I strongly disagree. 👎
Virtual events have made participation more accessible, breaking down geographical barriers and democratizing the event experience.
They aren’t meant to replace in-person events—they serve a different purpose. It’s not about competition; it’s about choosing the right format to meet your goals.
What's your take?

Attending conferences and meetups is one sure way to make your own way in. Network like your career depends on it - It actually does. Virtual events are the best place to start. Action Point: Ensure to connect with industry peers during events. The first step is to strike up a mutually beneficial conversation.

🌟Do you ever wonder what events would excite your ideal client? It's as easy as ASK!
But there's a little magic🪄 to asking the right questions.
Here's a cool way to remember it: ASK 🌠
Assess: Start by checking out what your ideal client likes and needs. For events, this means figuring out what they expect. Think about the activities, topics, and the way things are set up that make them feel excited.
Seek: Then, ask them directly about what they want. You can chat with them officially or just have a friendly conversation. Learning about the things they value, how they want to connect, and even where they want to go for an event is super important.
Know: Get a real grip on what drives and challenges your clients. When you really know what pushes their buttons in a good way, you can make sure events fit them just right. This understanding makes them feel special and heard, and that's awesome for building strong relationships.
This is a methodology that Event Advisors uses with our clients. So, when in doubt, just remember to ASK to make sure your clients have an amazing time at your events! 🎉
Planning an event is hard work but promoting it doesn't have to be.
