At COP28 UAE, over 130 countries agreed to expand renewable energy capacity to 11 Terawatt globally by 2030. Despite enormous potential for renewable energy development, the Mediterranean region lacks a common target for renewable expansion. The #TERAMed initiative aims to deliver a globally significant breakthrough by delivering 1TW of renewable energy capacity in the Mediterranean by 2030. This will show how renewable energy can provide energy security, affordability, clean industrial development, jobs, and investments for the region. The #Mediterranean region has historically played a strategic role in global energy dynamics, mostly through fossil fuels exploitation. Today, the #decarbonization imperative requires a rapid and just fossil-to-clean shift. Shifting the focus to renewable energy offers a fresh and unique opportunity to work together to tackle the diverse but common set of challenges faced by countries across the region. An inclusive energy transition pathway for the region is critical to underpin its future’s stability and achieve sustainable development goals, reduce the reliance on #fossilfuels, mitigate geopolitical tensions and support the global #decarbonization pathway. #mena #greenhydrogen Union for the Mediterranean ECCO think tank Fabio Stevanato Mustafa Özgür Berke Andrea Ghianda Osama Fawzy Georgy HENEIN, MBA

The Paris Agreement requires countries to submit Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) every five years, outlining specific policies and measures to achieve the global climate targets. South Africa, as a signatory, submitted its first NDC in 2016 and an updated version in 2021, committing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 31% by 2030. While this commitment is commendable, the Climate Action Tracker (CAT) indicates that South Africa is unlikely to meet this target without significant action. Accelerating the transition to renewable energy and enforcing robust policies will be critical to closing the gap. At NOA Group, we believe renewable energy is key to transforming South Africa’s energy landscape. By supporting businesses to decarbonise through affordable and reliable renewable energy solutions, we’re helping to make these targets achievable. Let’s work together to turn ambition into action. https://bit.ly/3UYdXAY #ParisAgreement #NDC #NetZero #RenewableEnergy #ClimateAction

The Kingdom of Morocco has ambitious objectives for sustainable development within the energy sector; namely, it made an announcement during the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Marrakech that it would strive to achieve more than 52% of renewable energy installed capacity in the electricity mix by 2030. As the Government of Morocco has announced that it will reach this target early, by 2025, ANRE - The Moroccan Electricity Regulatory Authority is working to establish strong regulatory frameworks to help facilitate this transition and ensure the right conditions are in place to attract private investment. Read how USAID and NARUC are working to help ANRE meet national energy sector goals: https://bit.ly/3IETiv4 #Morocco #renewableenergy #energysector #regulation

#Morocco has risen to 8th place in the 2025 #Climate #Change Performance Index (CCPI), presented at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The ranking reflects the country’s leadership in renewable energy and sustainable development, making it the top performer in both the Arab world and Africa. While no country achieved a "very high" rating, leaving the top three positions vacant, Morocco's performance demonstrates its significant progress toward carbon neutrality. The CCPI evaluates nations based on greenhouse gas emissions, renewable energy, energy use, and climate policy. Morocco earned high marks for its ambitious climate goals, including generating 52% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. Its strides in solar and wind energy projects were key factors in its improved ranking.

Meeting in DC last week, UAE & US officials highlighted new projects to expand clean energy and decarbonize industry. COP28 UAE Director-General Amb. Majid Al Suwaidi and Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Energy and Investment Lyndsey Merrill underscored the UAE-US Partnership for Accelerating Clean Energy (PACE) as an important platform for government and private sector cooperation to advance the energy transition. “The initiative [PACE] reflects our countries’ shared commitment to expand clean energy and create economic opportunity through government partnerships and collaboration with the private sector,” said Amb. Al Suwaidi. Notable PACE projects include 🇦🇪’s Averi Finance and AMEA Power working with the 🇺🇸 Power Africa initiative to expand clean energy access in Sub-Saharan Africa, Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company)’s latest expansion of its US renewables portfolio, and ADNOC Group investment in ExxonMobil’s low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia facility in Texas. As the world pivots toward cleaner energy solutions, the transition from natural gas (NG) to renewable natural gas (RNG) is a significant milestone in decarbonizing energy systems. 🔹 What is RNG? Renewable natural gas, also known as biomethane, is produced from organic waste sources like landfills, agricultural waste, and wastewater treatment plants. Once processed, RNG is chemically identical to conventional natural gas but far greener. ➡️Why the Transition Matters: 1️⃣ Carbon Neutrality: RNG captures methane that would otherwise escape into the atmosphere, dramatically reducing greenhouse gas emissions. 2️⃣ Infrastructure Compatibility: RNG integrates seamlessly into existing natural gas pipelines, appliances, and PRMS infrastructure. 3️⃣ Circular Economy: It turns waste into energy, closing the loop on sustainable resource management. 🔹 The Role of Energy Infrastructure For companies in natural gas distribution, RNG provides an opportunity to leverage existing assets while supporting the energy transition. Pressure reduction stations, pipelines, and storage systems can be adapted to handle RNG with minimal modifications. At Teaba and MesonEnergy UAE, we recognize the importance of this shift. By focusing on scalable and sustainable energy solutions, we aim to play a key role in facilitating RNG adoption, particularly in emerging markets like Africa. #RenewableNaturalGas #EnergyTransition #Sustainability #Decarbonization #NaturalGas #CleanEnergy

Thrilled to announce the launch of our #UAEConsensus report at #PreCOP today! 🌍🌿 This crucial report tracks our progress since #COP28 in delivering #3xRenewables and doubling energy efficiency improvements: Key findings: 👉 We're off-track for most renewable technologies, except solar PV (impressive +346.9 GW added in 2023!) 👉 Global renewable capacity grew 14% in 2023 (16.1% needed to stay on track) 👉 If we continue at 14% annually until 2030, we'll fall short by 1.5 TW - equivalent to the combined renewable capacity of multiple global regions! Proud to have contributed to the "Infrastructure, Grids and Storage" section, highlighting the critical need for grid modernisation and expansion to support this massive renewable scale-up. To reach our 11.2 TW goal by 2030, we need urgent action on: ⭐ Policy and regulation ⭐Supply chains, skills and capacities ⭐Finance, especially for emerging markets ⭐International collaboration ⭐Infrastructure modernisation and expansion Huge thanks to our partners COP28 UAE, COP29 Azerbaijan, Government of Brazil, Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, Global Renewables Alliance (GRA) and for the strategic support of Dr. Abdulla Malek, Orkhan Zeynalov, Bruce Douglas, Nazrin Habizada, Elnur Soltanov, Roland Roesch, Gurbuz Gonul, Binu Parthan.
