🚨 US Trust in Healthcare Near All Time Lows —Will AI Erode it Further or Restore it? 🚨 The data ain't pretty. Some sobering stats - - According to Gallup (2023), only 34% of Americans have confidence in the healthcare system, just 3% away from an all-time low of 37% in 2007 - A PX Pulse survey by Ipsos (2022) revealed that 68% of patients feel trust in healthcare has declined in the past two years, primarily due to issues like timely care (50%) and pricing transparency (40%) - JAMA Survey: Post COVID confidence in physicians plummeted from 70% to 40% --- 💡 AI in Healthcare: - A multinational study surveyed 13806 patients across 43 countries to assess attitudes toward AI - 70% of patients prefer AI with transparent decision-making processes, even if it means slightly reduced accuracy. - Demographic differences were significant: - Older adults and patients with poorer health showed more skepticism towards AI. - Young, tech-savvy males were more likely to have a positive attitude toward AI in healthcare - Only 4% of patients support fully autonomous AI; most prefer clinicians to stay in control when AI is used - Previous studies show 67%-96% of patients favor physician-led diagnoses over AI --- 🔑Key Takeaways: - Patients need a bigger voice in AI strategy development. - Design AI systems for those we want to impact the most—especially older adults and the highest consumers of healthcare services. Understanding their concerns is critical. - More testing and feedback on patient interactions with AI - More Clinician involvement with higher stakes decisions. - Prioritize transparency and maintain human oversight to build and sustain trust. - Recognize demographic differences in AI interactions. What do you think? How can we build AI that enhances trust and empowers patients? #HealthcareInnovation #AI #ExplainableAI #HealthTech #healthcareAI

As in any business, customers are king and therefore inputs, feedback from customers ( Patients) is imperative in crafting the ideal product. To eliminate bias, multi ethnic/ multi national, multi centred communities need to be involved in the design process. For accountability, human oversight will attain greater trust in AI deployment. Insightful share, thank you Lukaz Kowalczyk MD.
