In preparation for our EOS session with Rick VanDermyden, we were advised to read Jim Collins’s book, “Good to Great” that examines why some companies achieve long-term success and greatness while others do not. Key points from the book include: 1. Level 5 Leadership: Companies with Level 5 leaders, who are humble, yet driven to achieve results for the company rather than personal gain, tend to be more successful. 2. First Who, Then What: Great companies focus on getting the right people on the bus (the company) and in the right seats (roles) before determining where to drive the bus. 3. Confront the Brutal Facts: Successful companies confront the harsh realities of their business, but remain optimistic about the future. 4. The Hedgehog Concept: Great companies focus on what they can be the best in the world at, what drives their economic engine, and what they are deeply passionate about. 5. The Flywheel Effect: Companies that focus on consistent, small improvements over time can build momentum like a flywheel, leading to sustained growth and success. These are just a few key concepts from the book, which offers valuable insights for business leaders looking to take their companies from good to great.
