Last week was my first week in full founder mode. And it ended with motivational rocket fuel 🚀 I was so privileged to be invited to the Nexus Leeds 5 year anniversary dinner. Nexus is an amazing innovation hub in Leeds. Dr Martin Stow described it as the place for the investment of: → Time → Talent → Resources Nexus was described as being at the heart of a region on the RISE. And at the heart of Nexus was a room full of the most incredible purpose-driven founders and leaders ✨ There were so many highlights including: 1. A guest appearance by Naga Muchetty. 2. Paul Hallett's key note speech. 3. The fireside chat with an incredible panel. Storytelling is such a powerful way to capture attention and Paul's key note speech had not one, but 5 stories. All told through 5 conversations that changed the trajectory of his company, Vet AI. The key takeaways for me were: 1. Great SUPPORT from your spouse helps you build solid foundations. 2. Take OPPORTUNITIES by embracing sliding doors moments. 3. If you have an idea, go GET IT! And most importantly with: ✅ Intentionality ✅ Courage ✅ Focus You can get to where you need to. The fireside chat was amazing too. My key takeaways were: 1. Kamran Rashid's ideology that: → It takes a village to raise a child. → And it takes an ECOSYSTEM to raise an entrepreneur. 2. Eve Roodhouse's focus on: → The power of RELATIONSHIPS. → And the commitment to a VISION to bring about real change. 3. Sophie Copley's commitment to keep connecting to WHY we're doing what we're doing. Thank you Paul for the kind invite. I was incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to learn, be inspired and gain clarity on my own vision. I’m at the start of my founder journey but seeing what's possible on that night, I can't wait to get started!

There are so many interesting discussions happening at London Tech Week. One founder, CEO, and investor discussion that has kept me thinking is "The Nuts and Bolts of Building Your Own Business" with panelists Gerard Grech, Tom Bohills, Chris Woodward-Jones and Galia Beer-Gabel. Here are some of the insights gained: 💡 The importance of engaging a coach early to help the founder “let go” of aspects of the business in preparation for scaling. 💡 The chances of success and survival are greater if you have a co-founder, and the benefits that come with having a co-pilot to digest and strategize your journey. 💡 Ensure that you are intentional and take the time to define your values as a founder. 💡 Recognise what you are and aren’t good at early on; find processes and people to fill the gaps. You can’t be everyone and everything all of the time. 💡Consider trademarking your business. 💡 It’s okay to be vulnerable - in fact, it’s really helpful, especially when leveraging the expertise of your board and advisors; it makes your product better. 💡 Recognise that you are one of many investments for your investors - use their time wisely. 💡 The growing pains of trusting the people you hire to do the building for you. 💡 Advocacy being a key marker of product-market fit. 💡 Choosing investors for your business that are compatible with you, beyond the funding that they offer. 💡 Key considerations in PMF - deciding to either swim in ‘red waters’ (i.e., bloody waters) where products are already available and your mission is to make your offering better, or go into entirely new markets. So much food for thought. Thank you, panelists. Founders and CEOs, do these points resonate with you? Any other insights to add from your experience? #people #culture #startup #scaleup #coaching #LTW2024

💡 "You don't get what you don't ask for!" 📢 Don't be ashamed of asking people for things, whether it be advisors, investors or founder friends - ✅ ask for advice ✅ ask for introductions ✅ ask for help This was one of the many tips provided by Amy Benson, Founder and CEO of Diolog, when Rob Cassidy interviewed her as part of the Xsellerate Founder Insight Series recently. "I love it when people ask me questions because I would love to share my knowledge of what I've learned over the past two and a half years with as many people as I can. I don't feel ashamed of asking them either and I think that's really important being early stage." There were many amazing insights shared by Amy (link to the full interview in the comments). "Another statement that I'd put out there for founders that might feel those peaks and troughs of being part of a startup and the days where you just have this weight hanging over your head is that we all know the saying 'Rome wasn't built in a day' but the second part of that saying goes something like 'but a brick was laid every hour'" 😃 #gtmstrategy #founderinsights #startup #founder

The Founder's Dilemma: To be rich or to be king. Few have been both. Harvard Business Review had an article that examined this quandary some years ago. New Enterprise Forum is going to host an expert panel discussion on Thursday, November 21, at Ann Arbor SPARK that will explore the topic in today's startup world. As startups scale, every leadership transition impacts the company's culture and how decisions are made. During this dynamic panel discussion, we will hear firsthand from two founders who have navigated the trade-off of the Founder's Dilemma. We will also get the perspective of an investor who will assess founder fit and alignment and a non-founder CEO who has successfully led a leadership transition to drive growth, while honoring the founder's original vision. Entitled "Should I stay, or should I go now? The Founder's Dilemma," the panel will be moderated by Barbara A. Boldt, Principal at Boldt Global, LLC, with the panelists being David C. Bloom, Executive Director of Pointe Angels; Peter Deppe, Co-Founder and former CTO of KUHMUTE ⚡; Danny Ellis, Co-Founder and CEO of SkySpecs; and Sherwin Prior, Co-Founder and CEO of KUHMUTE ⚡. The evening's agenda will also have a showcase presentation from Blake Mischley, Co-Founder and CEO of MeetYourClass, on the company's history and impressive traction and growth. MeetYourClass was the Innovation Track Winner at the 2024 Michigan Business Challenge presented by Zell Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies at University of Michigan - Stephen M. Ross School of Business. The event will kick off at 5:00 p.m. with food, drink and networking, with the programming starting at 5:45 p.m.. A majority of founders are unclear about the problem they are solving. And that’s a problem. That’s my observation from reviewing more than 15 pitches in the last few months from Founders Institute, Vision Health Pioneers Incubator and other programs. 1. Founders talk about context or consequences, but not underlying problems 2. They jump right into the solution without mentioning what user need it solves 3. There is a mismatch between the problem stated and the solution developed Here’s two super simple steps I recommend any founder to explore the problem they are solving: 🔎 Go wide & deep. Build a mind map, sketch on paper, however you want to do this. But from every ‘problem’ you write down, ask “Why is this a problem?”, “What are the consequences of this, does it lead to another problem?” A great technique to go deep: Ask WHY five times. It will lead you to explore problems on a deep, often social and emotional, level. 📍 Narrow it down. Now, you could probably talk about the problem you are solving in depth. But what we need now is that you put it in one concise sentence. Try to tell me in one sentence what problem you are solving. When everybody in the room is super clear on the problem, you have a fantastic transition to explaining how your solutions solves that problem and why you are the one to solve it. Thanks again to Ferdinand Mühlhäuser 🇺🇦🌍 & Kseniia Choni for the invitation to share my expert feedback with your founders. If any founders in my network want to practice the problem-solution part of their pitch, reach out. #pitching #founders #startup #problem

Whether it’s talking to the woman next me at the coffee shop or networking with a CEO, I’ve always been one to start the conversation. What began as a simple “yes” to coffee with Brynne Norquist turned into an opportunity for collaboration and imagination. Needless to say, by the end of the two hours we knew we make a powerful team. My relationship with my mentor Garen Daly, Director of the Boston Sci-Fi Film Festival and industry veteran, begun only 10 days before the 49th annual festival began. During our first conversation, he explained to me that knowing your strengths and your “why” will lead you to sucess. I used to be wary of the unknown, skeptical about uncharted journeys. Joining Hiike as a co-founder has allowed me to take pride in every chance to collaborate and connect with people in any setting. Being part of an early stage team is inherently uncertain, but I now view that uncertainty as a privilege, because with that brings an incredible community that Brynne and I rely on to navigate the difficulties of the startup journey. I believe The Residency is our next uncertain. Living in an environment where building and collaboration is the prevailing mindset, it fosters a community for unprecedented scalability. With weekly demo days, The Residency would be the epitome of Garen’s original message: knowing your strengths and understanding your “why”. #Collaboration #Entrepreneur #StartUp #Growth #KnowYourWhy

Why Every Founder Needs a Community Behind every thriving startup is a powerful network of peers, mentors, and industry experts. But as a founder, juggling the complexities of scaling, building a brand, and managing operations can feel isolating. At Terabyte, we’ve created a Founders' Network - a community that empowers founders to learn, collaborate, share insights, and overcome challenges with like-minded leaders. Here’s why being part of this community is essential for your startup’s success: 1. Access to Real-World Insights Running a startup requires navigating a maze of obstacles. Our community allows founders to exchange real-life lessons and advice from those who have already been in the trenches. Whether it's scaling in emerging markets or cracking a new customer acquisition strategy, you’ll learn from those who’ve done it. 2. Exclusive Growth Strategies Growth isn’t just about execution; it’s about knowing the right strategies to implement. With access to exclusive content, webinars, and resources, the Founders' Network connects you to the latest growth tactics tailored for startups. Whether it's innovative marketing strategies or investment readiness, we’ve got the tools to help you grow faster. 3. Collaborative Problem-Solving Sometimes the best solutions come from collaboration. In our community, founders don’t just share success stories; they help solve real-time challenges. From overcoming bottlenecks in operations to securing the right partnerships, the support from the network can be the difference between surviving and thriving. 4. Building Lasting Relationships In the startup world, who you know can be as important as what you know. Our community offers founders the chance to build authentic relationships - whether for mentorship, partnership, or collaboration - that can open doors for future opportunities. Imagine having a circle of entrepreneurs who understand your journey, are invested in your success, and offer valuable guidance at every step of your business growth. If you're ready to level up your startup and surround yourself with the right people, join our Founders' Network here: https://tally.so/r/3xyGEo #FoundersNetwork #Entrepreneurship #BusinessGrowth #TerabyteCommunity #Collaboration #Leadership #StartupSuccess #BusinessStrategy
