The Growth Mindset Advantage: Why MBAs Thrive in Today's Business World In today's fast-paced business environment, a growth mindset is more critical than ever. This mentality, often emphasized in MBA programs, fosters a belief that skills and abilities can be developed through hard work and learning. But what exactly is a growth mindset, and how does it benefit MBAs? * Embraces Challenges: Those with a growth mindset see challenges as opportunities to learn and grow. This is essential for navigating the complexities of the business world. * Persistence Pays Off: They understand that success takes time and effort. They're not easily discouraged by setbacks and keep pushing forward. * Lifelong Learners: They embrace continuous learning and development, a quality highly sought after by employers. An MBA education equips graduates not only with business acumen but also with the tools to cultivate a growth mindset. Through challenging coursework, diverse group projects, and real-world case studies, MBAs develop: * Critical Thinking Skills: The ability to analyze problems from different perspectives and find innovative solutions. * Adaptability: The agility to adjust to changing market conditions and embrace new technologies. * Resilience: The strength to bounce back from setbacks and learn from mistakes. The combination of a growth mindset and an MBA education creates a powerful force in the business world. MBAs are prepared to lead, innovate, and thrive in a dynamic and ever-evolving landscape. My students Arshita Malhotra and Mohammed Kashifulla recently secured their seats at Harvard Business School! The odds of an Indian student getting an admit into HBS are 𝗟𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗡 0.𝟯%. In simple words, they have achieved what others don’t even dream of. For most people, it is almost a sin to even dream of Harvard. Harvard rejects more than 99% of the applicants from India. Then 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝗔𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗞𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗳 𝗱𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆? You can get the answer to these potent questions straight from the horse’s mouth on 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟮𝟴𝘁𝗵 at 𝟭𝟭:𝟬𝟬 𝗔𝗠 at the 𝐄𝘅𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗚𝗠𝗔𝗧 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀/𝗠𝗕𝗔 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 - 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗮𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗕-𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀..., where we will be spilling secrets about how they cracked such a monumental feat. 2021 marked 100 years of case study method in Harvard. What a significant milestone. I'm sure we all agree with what is said in this video is that the best way to teach business education is by discussion, not by lecture. I remember I got formally introduced to the case study method when I signed up for Executive MBA, a yearlong program, from IIM Calcutta, one of the premier institutions in India. And when I got to know that I need to review a business case, the details about how the organization did, outcome of their actions and after reviewing all of these I needed to share my thoughts. I was super excited to learn this way because I felt it is more practical and hands on way of learning. Now I feel the next wave will be where subjects will be taught by calling the industry leaders to share their learnings and experiences and conducting sessions more of a debate and discussion way. This is where we as leaders can play a crucial role, as with our many decades of experience, we have seen a lot of successes, challenges, and many failures. All of these if shared with the students along with asking thought provoking questions, they will get a different perspective, which will help them to develop their own approach. Any thoughts? #leadershipdevelopment #continuouslearning

Re-reading (as I diligently do every year, and before every session), one of the pre-reads for today’s session in a course I am teaching at IIM Bangalore. The course is titled, ‘Leading with Joy’, and today is session 19 of a 20 session course for experienced working professionals who are part of the IIM Bangalore PGPEM (2 Year MBA Programme for Working Executives) program. The topic for today’s session is ‘Owning your journey’. There is much we will be discussing today that I am looking forward to. One of the themes that forms a part of today’s discussion comes from an article titled, ‘ Do your commitments match your convictions’? It is a brilliant article written by Dominic Houlder and Donald Sull based on a course taught at London Business School (my alma mater). I recommend reading the entire article as an interesting reflection piece. However, the excerpt I am sharing today is on one very nuanced very point that I feel many of us don't catch in time! It is about how the very commitments and choices that led to our past success (or lit us up in the past) can over time turn into the ruts that lock us into active inertia. I especially like the way this paragraph is phrased - “ Strategic frames become blinders, selected processes lapse into routines, relationships turn into shackles, resources become millstones, and once vibrant values ossify into dogmas” . Does it resonate with you? #Leadingwithjoy #craftingourlives

IMD’s Groundbreaking MBA: Preparing Leaders for an AI-Driven World" John Byrne has written an outstanding article (https://lnkd.in/eS8w-gxx) about the IMD MBA, a program that is unfortunately often overlooked by our MBA Center students. Despite its immense value and innovation, IMD admits only 5 students per year, which limits opportunities. Here is a summary of this fascinating article on one of the most innovative MBA programs in the world. IMD’s AI-Driven MBA Program Revolutionizes Business Education In response to the profound impact of AI, IMD in Lausanne has reimagined its MBA curriculum, earning it the title of Poets&Quants’ MBA Program of the Year for 2024. Unlike other business schools making incremental changes, IMD has taken a bold, ground-up approach to redesigning its program, ensuring graduates are equipped for an AI-informed future while doubling down on essential human skills that no algorithm can replace. Key Innovations Focus on 10 Core Skills: IMD emphasizes "transversal" skills, such as systems thinking, storytelling, structured problem-solving, and decision-making—traits critical for effective leadership that AI cannot replicate. Students are assessed on their knowledge and demonstrated mastery of these skills, tracked through dashboards throughout the program. Integration of AI: Instead of treating AI as an add-on, IMD weaves AI into every aspect of the program. The goal is not just to understand AI defensively but to leverage it proactively to solve problems and innovate. Experiential Learning: The program starts with a critical thinking and communication module taught by top faculty, followed by a month-long immersion in Singapore called the Future Lab. This module focuses on digital and AI, featuring company visits, keynote speakers, and hands-on learning led by AI expert Professor Amit Joshi. IMD’s redesign reflects its commitment to preparing graduates for leadership in a rapidly changing world. MBA Dean Omar Toulan explains the focus on human traits like judgment, courage, and critical thinking: “I have yet to see an AI system that can be an effective leader.” This holistic approach resonates, with applications up 15% and alumni offering rave reviews. The program’s innovations and intimate cohort size of just 90 students ensure a tailored and transformative learning experience. It positions IMD graduates as leaders uniquely prepared to navigate the opportunities and challenges of AI-driven industries.
