Isn’t it amazing what can happen when people choose to work together. What started as a dream I had when we were fixing roofs in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria back in 2018, is now coming to reality as a true community project with so many sponsors, donors and volunteers. It is truly heartwarming to see that all three levels of government understand the need to share in this vision to provide a safe place to live for the chronically under housed. The units are build beyond code, with energy efficiency (net zero ready), comfort, indoor air quality, carbon reduction and indoor air quality features. Oh, and they are really cute. Looking forward to finishing and sharing our white paper on the project. Way to go team! Super proud of you all and everyone who joined us for the three day blitz.
Federal and Provincial Funding Boost for Project Tiny Hope! 🏡 Today, we’re excited to share that Project Tiny Hope in St. Thomas has received a major boost, with over $2.4 million in combined funding from the federal and provincial governments through the Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative (COCHI). This investment will support the construction of 40 supportive housing units at 21 Kains Street, providing stable homes for women, Indigenous Peoples, young adults, and persons with disabilities in our community. In attendance at today’s announcement were Associate Minister of Housing Vijay Thanigasalam, MP Peter Fragiskatos, MPP Rob Flack, MP Karen Vecchio, Mayor Joe Preston, Lindsay Rice from YWCA St. Thomas-Elgin, and Doug Tarry from Doug Tarry Homes. Thank you to everyone involved for their commitment to making St. Thomas a place where everyone can thrive. Congratulations. I've been following you since 2020 before the pandemic. I worked at Karwood for a while and got to know your projects and subdivisions better. You were already fantastic before, but now you've become even more incredible to me. I loved the project and even more the name and meaning behind Tiny Hope. Congratulations again.
