📢 Announcing a New Partnership to Expand Affordable Housing in St. Thomas! The City of St. Thomas has partnered with Prespa Group to support the 24-unit one-bedroom apartment building at 15 Flora Street. Recently completed by Prespa Group, this development brings affordable and accessible housing options to local seniors, addressing a crucial need in our community. Each unit at 15 Flora Street includes amenities like in-suite laundry, air conditioning, kitchen appliances, and parking, with four barrier-free units designed for accessibility. A community room also provides a welcoming space for residents to connect and build community. Mayor Preston shared, "This partnership with Prespa Group underscores the importance of collaboration between public and private sectors in tackling the housing shortage and ensuring that our seniors have access to safe, affordable housing.” As demand for affordable housing continues, the City of St. Thomas remains committed to working with local developers on meaningful housing solutions. Federal and Provincial Funding Boost for Project Tiny Hope! 🏡 Today, we’re excited to share that Project Tiny Hope in St. Thomas has received a major boost, with over $2.4 million in combined funding from the federal and provincial governments through the Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative (COCHI). This investment will support the construction of 40 supportive housing units at 21 Kains Street, providing stable homes for women, Indigenous Peoples, young adults, and persons with disabilities in our community. In attendance at today’s announcement were Associate Minister of Housing Vijay Thanigasalam, MP Peter Fragiskatos, MPP Rob Flack, MP Karen Vecchio, Mayor Joe Preston, Lindsay Rice from YWCA St. Thomas-Elgin, and Doug Tarry from Doug Tarry Homes. Thank you to everyone involved for their commitment to making St. Thomas a place where everyone can thrive. Exciting morning in #TheRailwayCity! Geerlinks Home Hardware Building Centre, in partnership with Tree Canada, hosted a tree planting event at Locke’s Public School, where they planted five maple trees with the help of the students. In attendance were representatives from Geerlinks Home Hardware Building Centre and Design Gallery, MP Karen Vecchio, Councillor McCaulley, and a representative from ReForest London acting on behalf of Tree Canada, all coming together to raise awareness about the importance of trees in our community. This educational event not only brought shade to the school grounds but also inspired the students to understand their role in creating a greener future.
