Did you know how Agenskalns Bay was formed? Engineer Gustavs Emanuels von Weismanis (1764–1782) led the construction of the Daugava dam, connecting six islands into one chain: Bieķensala, Mūkusala, Lielā Klīversala, Burkānu sala, Mazā Klīversala, and Ķīpsala. In the spring of 1785 or 1786, the Daugava river broke through the dam between Lielā Klīversala and Burkānu sala, creating what we now know as Āgenskalns Bay.
