This month marks the second anniversary of the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO). Over the past two years, we have dedicated ourselves to modernizing the United States Department of Defense through #data, #analytics, and #ArtificialIntelligence. Our commitment to building a robust digital infrastructure, breaking down barriers to adoption, and scaling impactful solutions has propelled the #DoD toward a more agile and data-driven future. We are proud of the progress we have made in enhancing decision-making capabilities and fostering a culture of innovation within the Department. Artificial Intelligence applied in commercial environments. A new an exciting topic, which I have been thrust into the centre of. As I learn more about large language models and artificial intelligence, it is evident how they are the dot-com moment of my generation. The ability for a chatbot to ingest data and provide decision support or analysis is barely scratching the surface of this capability. Palantir AIP is already capable of fully automating commercial processes which would have been unheard of only years ago. As I learn more I will share insights into how this technology is revolutionising commercial enterprises, and the many use-cases where it can be applied. https://lnkd.in/eGV-uJht

People interpret the creation of the DoD Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office as a buying signal for app layer artificial intelligence. I think they're all missing a bigger point. The United States Department of Defense has accumulated an incredible amount of technical debt by buying capabilities and failing to future-proof them. We've historically traded away data capture for a mile more of range, an hour longer of performance, an extra frequency mode - it's time to fix this. The DoD CDAO is focused more on creating sustainable, high-quality data pathways that we've neglected to build in the past. We're late in the game, but it's the right strategy to address our total lack of data hygiene. CDAO is game changing buying signal, but NOT for the app layer. United States Department of Defense Chief Digital and AI Office Hosts First GIDE Industry Insights Forum The Department of Defense's (DoD) DoD Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO), in collaboration with the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD R&E) and the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), hosted the inaugural Global Information Dominance Experiments (GIDE) Industry Insights Forum at the Hyatt Regency Reston in Virginia. This event aimed to foster collaboration between private industry and the DoD to address AI needs and enhance digital capabilities. Highlights included discussions on the Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control (CJADC2) and presentations on the Open Data and Applications Government-owned Interoperable Repositories (Open DAGIR) program. The forum underscored the CDAO’s commitment to leveraging industry innovation and fostering partnerships to scale AI and digital infrastructure within the DoD. Had you told me a decade ago (while sitting in an agency windowless building) that I would get to a) care so deeply about the Federal government’s future AI decision making, b) know what it is like to be at a startup/Small Business in AI competing with Primes vying for Federal attention and funds, and c) live to see a day where I don’t have to spend countless hours and resources waiting on Prime partnerships/vetting, applying to SBIRs to only receive “unfunded,” ATO monitoring, drop $250K-750K on FedRAMP compliance, and maybe actually deliver innovations in #ExplainableAI #AITrust #HallucinationFreeAI #GenAI... I’d have spit out my bubblegum, but here we are. If you need me, I’ll be building more use case slides at data² for upcoming work, and I’m all out of bubblegum.
