Yes, and… Last week, I got to coach a team of rockstars as they worked their way through a Big Bloom hackathon. Through the day, we moved our way thoughtfully through the phases of design thinking – Empathy, Ideation, Prototyping and Pitch. As we were working through the day, we practiced the art of saying “Yes, and…” This simple practice helped us to resist the temptation to undermine other people’s ideas, instead, we used “Yes, and…” to build on each other’s concepts and to collaborate to the evolve the initial thoughts shared. We can shift this simple practice into our lives at work. If we are all deliberate about going to meetings with “Yes, and…” in mind, we’ll guarantee a safe space for people to share thoughts openly in the confidence that their ideas will not be disregarded or discarded. Rather, their thoughts will become seeds, nurtured through the input of others. Well done, Team Two! So proud of your efforts for Dress for Success! Last month, I had the privilege of joining Dream.Org on a mission to lobby members of the Congressional Caucus on Black Innovation and other congressional offices, including both Democratic and Republican lawmakers, in Washington, D.C. As the founder of Unstuck Labs and Reyets: Social Justice Network, I shared my experiences and insights to advocate for policies that support BIPOC entrepreneurs and promote equity in the tech industry. Our mission was to champion policies that ease the journey for BIPOC founders and demystify AI, JusticeTech and ClimateTech. Together, we emphasized three crucial policy recommendations: 1. Streamlining the certification process for BIPOC-owned businesses 2. Implementing loan guarantee programs to increase access to capital 3. Offering tax incentives for investing in BIPOC-founded startups Our collective efforts aimed to demonstrate how these policies could create a more inclusive ecosystem for entrepreneurs. At the #foundess female builders cafe event at Stanford. It was fantastic to meet some cool founders and CS grads - It was so inspiring to meet young women founders. Katie M. Molly Cantillon Krithi Reddy True customer validation isn't a checkbox—it's a continuous dance. Here's What Molly Cantillon had to say: 1. First, validating that customers have a problem is just the beginning. The real work starts with continuous validation as you build the solution. Your initial understanding of the problem is like a rough sketch; the details emerge through ongoing customer conversations. 2. Second, and this is crucial: Before building anything, go deep with others who are already building parts of your solution. Connect with them. Brainstorm with them. Maybe even work with them. Looking back, I wish I'd spent more time in these collaborative spaces. Moving forward, I'm committed to fostering these connections earlier in the development process. A week on from Day 1 at eMerge Americas… Honestly, one of if not THE best event I have been to. Huge thank you to my guy, Zane McCarthy for getting a group of us together. A true exponent of the mindset that your Network = Your Net-Worth. One thing that business owners and Founders constantly ask me is how I manage to work so well in the US as a British guy who is from outside of the area. Honestly, the answer is Community. I have been speaking with 5-10 Founders, VC’s, SME’s every day for 18 months. In those conversations I offer value around connection to my network, my partners and to my services. We look to add value from the get go and guess what? The power of reciprocity is insane!! I have friends and a community in over half of the states in the US from working this way. Meaning there’s literally nothing we can’t figure out, there’s no one person we can’t get to speak to directly or indirectly and most importantly, we can live everyday in our mission. “To reduce the failure in 5yrs ratio for start ups, globally” Zane is part of our tribe, which is growing daily.
