Just published an article on embracing continuous discovery in product management. A heartfelt thank you to my former manager, Irving Navarrete, for gifting me Teresa Torres's Continuous Discovery Habits. The book not only validated my approach but also provided new insights that continue to influence my work today. And a big thank you to Teresa Torres for writing such an impactful book that guides product managers toward better practices. Here's a great article from Teresa Torres covering the difference between OKR's and Outcomes and how important it is to understand the difference. There is also a great click-through link in this article to a post from Hope Gurion all about Outcomes and how product outcomes differ from business outcomes and why the difference matters. https://lnkd.in/ey6TYEQa

“If I had an hour to solve a problem and my life depended on the solution, I would spend the first 55 minutes determining the proper questions to ask, for once I know the proper question, I could solve the problem in less than 5 minutes.” - Albert Einstien. This quote has resonated with me ever since I read it. In the fast-paced world of product development, the importance of asking the right questions cannot be overstated. It guides us towards innovative solutions and ensures that every second counts to deliver value to the end users and thus, the business. #ProductDesign #ResearchQuestions

Which of these 3 dimensions do you think is the most challenging to transform in your organization? Marty Cagan's new book, #Transformed, offers a roadmap to help you achieve just that. His new Product Operating Model emphasizes 3 key dimensions, 4 new competencies, 5 new product concepts, and 20 principles. Let's dive into the 3 dimensions that make up this new model. 1. Change how you decide what problems to solve and determine your product strategy. This involves rethinking how you approach problem-solving and identifying the most valuable problems to solve for your customers and business. 2. Empower your teams through product discovery. Change how you solve problems. I like using frameworks like Teresa Torres' Continuous Discovery, which uses a Product Trio of Product Manager, Tech Lead, and Product Designer to frequently interview customers. 3. Change how you build, test, and deploy. Are you doing small releases frequently? Are you instrumenting and monitoring all your releases?

Identifying your assumptions 🤔 is crucial when proposing a solution to your potential customers. Every new idea 💡 comes with a lot of assumptions, and it's essential to identify them. We often assume certain things, such as the car starting, but what if it doesn't? That's why we need to write down 📝 as many assumptions as possible. Lean Mantra suggests running experiments and acknowledging that "we don't know anything". Everything we think we know is an assumption. To ensure the success of our solution, we must identify the assumptions that must be true. In most cases, there will be many assumptions, but it's crucial to focus on the big ones. For example, assuming that our users have a particular problem, or that they will pay for our product. Always ask yourself if the problem is big enough for our users to pay 💵 or signup 🎟 for it and if there are any alternative satisfactory substitutes. Remember, identifying assumptions is the key to the success of any solution. By acknowledging and testing our assumptions, we can validate our ideas 📈 and create a solution that truly meets the needs of our customers. #productmanagement #knowledgesharing #businessstrategy #successmindset #entrepreneurmindset

A snippet from Marty Cagan's latest book makes so much sense. I have personally seen this problem happen to companies and I had always believed you need to do the Product Discovery part right. Sadly, Product Discovery is not taken so seriously in many companies, and then they learn from it the hard way. Check this out: "Changing how you solve problems means moving from stakeholder-driven roadmaps and feature teams to empowered product teams given problems to solve, and then using product discovery to come up with solutions that are valuable, usable, feasible, and viable. Doing this means solving both for customer and for your business. This change is key to consistently improving time to money." -- Marty Cagan in TRANSFORMED. #productleaders #productmanagement

Life is too short to build something that nobody wants. One of my favorite lines. I am going to meet (virtually) the man who said this. Ash Maurya, the author and creator of Lean Canvas, will chat with us on Tuesday, July 30th. We are charged with building better products, but what does “better” mean? This is the million or billion-dollar question we will unpack in this talk. It starts with deeply understanding your customer's wants versus needs, uncovering real problems worth solving, and designing your product for problem/solution fit before product/market fit. Book your seat now and register for the event. The registration link is in the Comments section. #product #productmanagement #leancanvas #customers #agilewow AgileWoW
