Shippers ICYMI: On January 27, 2025, UPS will change the definition of the 40 lb minimum overlength penalty. Although UPS announced this change on October 21st, details regarding the dimensional calculations have yet to surface. For many shippers, if you are not getting hit with this cost today, it will be difficult to identify the impact this will have on your business based on the way UPS passes over information. Typically, UPS will only pass over information on length, width and height if it triggers a cost event.   FedEx typically provides this information 90% of the time, even if it doesn't trigger a cost event. With UPS it isn't as clear.   If you don't have a technology provider or a BI partner who can easily access this data, please make sure you are looking into the new rules around this change, so you don't get hit with penalties in January.

How FLOW Supported Supply Chains After the Baltimore Bridge Collapse When the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed, the Department of Transportation’s FLOW program became a lifeline for supply chains. This federal data-sharing platform allowed key players like C.H. Robinson, ITS Logistics, Home Depot, and IMC Companies to navigate the crisis. C.H. Robinson tracked re-bookings and ensured ports had the necessary resources. ITS Logistics used real-time data to deploy assets effectively. Home Depot quickly adapted, benefiting from FLOW's coordinated efforts with other ports. Although IMC Companies used FLOW more for historical data, they successfully shifted capacities to handle the disruption.
