Our DTLA Taco Bell Cantina recently partnered with new neighbors, Chick-fil-A, for a Giving Back: School Readiness Fair benefiting homeless children and families. Anchoring Communities in Acts of Kindness: Schools are more than educational institutions; they’re civic centres—places where communities gather, connect, and support each other. Through initiatives like Samara Day, we recently witnessed how schools can lead in building stronger, more connected communities, by living out the Trust's vision of Reach Up, Reach Out. Samara Day was all about encouraging students to give back, performing acts of kindness that made a positive impact locally. It was a day when children came together to practice values that strengthen communities and enhance the locality. When schools lead with compassion, they inspire everyone around them. Here’s how Samara Day helped schools shine as civic centres: Building Empathy and Responsibility: Samara Day empowered students to serve their communities, fostering a lifelong commitment to civic engagement and social responsibility. Read more about the day here: https://loom.ly/5EwhThI Bringing Families and Community Members Together: On Samara Day, parents, teachers, and local organisations joined forces, deepening relationships and showing students the power of community collaboration. Creating a Lasting Impact: The acts of kindness on Samara Day created ripple effects that extended far beyond the classroom, reinforcing the idea that schools are places where communities can unite to make a difference. By championing schools as hubs of kindness, learning, and connection, we’re seeing the full potential of schools as civic centers—strengthening our communities one act of kindness at a time. #civiccenter #connectedcommunity #reachout #reachup #chester #cheshire #winsford # ellesmereport

As a bit of balance to the usual noise. With the 🐣 Easter school holidays 🐣looming large, many families find themselves more stretched than usual and a lot of kids end up going hungry. So in the spirit of always looking for the helpers, please do consider (this includes companies) supporting and/or elevating organisations working on the ground to combat this reality as well as support kids in school who are not receiving meals. Some links below, but please do comment with more. ✨ Magic Breakfast - offers over 200,000 breakfasts every day to children and young people in schools across England and Scotland. https://lnkd.in/ecGbGcHJ ✨ FareShare - is a UK national network of charitable food redistributes, made up of 18 independent organisations. They take quality surplus food from across the food industry and deliver it to 8,500+ frontline charities and community groups. This includes school breakfast clubs, elderly people’s lunch clubs, homeless shelters and community cafes. https://fareshare.org.uk/ ✨ The Felix Project - aims to change the fact that millions of people in the UK regularly experience hunger, yet tonnes of surplus fresh food is thrown away every day. The project collects fresh, nutritious food that cannot be sold, and delivers it to schools and charities. They also run a specific programme in London, alongside The Mayors Fund, to tackle the issue of school holiday shortfalls. https://lnkd.in/eXVpcmgz https://lnkd.in/eb3d8BD2 ✨ Little Village - adding for good measure as they (and most baby banks) are constantly in need to support and donations as they receive an ask for help on average every 45 seconds right now, as 4,3 million children live in poverty in the UK.

Are you like me and are looking for ways to give back to others? I have volunteered at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) many times over the years. A few months ago, I stopped in and asked what more could I do beyond packing meals and donating money. As it turns out, they also need folks to speak to organizations (schools, churches, businesses....etc.) to inform them about FMSC. Recently, I was at an event where I spoke to high school students about FMSC and why what they do is so important. Did you know that 1 in 9 children go hungry each day? What's worse, an estimated 6200 children die each day from starvation. I think many of us 'know' this but are so far removed, that we are really numb to this crisis. I know the vast majority of the high schools students I spoke with were very much unaware. FMSC receives no government funding. They are 100% supported by volunteers (time to pack these meals and money to buy the food). They strive to keep administrative costs down and over 90% of the monetary donations go directly into the food costs. If you are interested in helping, below is more information: From their LinkedIn Page: Feed My Starving Children We believe hope starts with food. Hunger never takes a break––and neither does our mission to end it for kids. It’s a passion that drives our partnerships with West Michigan community heroes like Hand2Hand as they strive to eliminate the 68-hour nutrition gap each weekend presents for many children. According to Feeding America West Michigan, one in eight kids faces hunger––that’s nearly 65,000 students in West Michigan or roughly 834 full school buses! While breakfast and lunch may be served at school through national programs, access to healthy meals often stops when children are dropped off at home on Friday afternoon. That’s when Hand2Hand steps in. This organization mobilizes schools, churches, people and businesses like Amway to pack and distribute backpacks brimming with nutritious food like three breakfast items, four snacks and three-to-four lunch and dinner options, often with a recipe. One backpack at a time, this community powerhouse secured more than 4 million food items valued at $2 million to support nearly 15,000 students at 280 schools in 44 West Michigan districts. And that’s just last school year! More hands means more impact. In 2023, Amway invested $2.8 million to benefit more than 100 nonprofit champions like Hand2Hand right here in West Michigan, where we first put down roots. Supporting the communities where we do business has always been at the heart of our story. Cheers to another year of making lives better and healthier with Hand2Hand and our growing group of courageous community partners! #WeAreAmway #LifeAtAmway

Friends and Colleagues, As many of you know, I am a passionate Board Member for Dallas Pets Alive! One of the biggest fundraising events for us is TODAY, North Texas Giving Day. Our goal today is to raise $115,000 so we can continue our amazing life-saving work! If you’re looking to give back, please consider donating to Dallas Pets Alive. Every bit helps and makes a big impact! ❤️ Thank you for your support! 🙏 https://lnkd.in/gsZdDbjw More about Dallas Pets Alive: Your support during North Texas Giving Day is not just a donation; it's a lifeline. Every gift you make goes directly to programs that are transforming the lives of animals and their humans. Our Foster and Adoption program is a beacon of hope for the most at-risk animals in our partner shelters, while our preventative programs—like PASS, Dogs Matter, and Bark Dorm—work tirelessly to keep pets out of shelters and in loving homes. These initiatives are not just about rescue; they're about building healthier, stronger communities where animals and people thrive together. The need is urgent. Many of the pets that come into our care have medical conditions so severe that shelters simply can't provide the care they need. Over a third of the animals we help are Major Medical Cases, requiring $1,000 or more in medical expenses. In 2023 alone, we spent more than $400,000 on treatments ranging from basic vaccinations to heartworm treatment and life-saving surgeries. This year, as we've taken on the incredible work of Dogs Matter and face the overwhelming overcrowding in North Texas shelters, the number of animals in our care has more than doubled. For the first time, we have more than 500 animals relying on our programs. While we've made strides in fundraising, the financial demands have outpaced our resources.
Every year, amazing supporters like you come together for Dallas Pets Alive on North Texas Giving Day. Your contributions are indispensable; they fuel our ability rescue animals and transform lives. We need your support now more than ever! This is our Excutive Director, Leslie Sans with one of our adoptable dogs, Sparkles, to remind you that you have the power to save lives. There is no donation too small — every little bit makes a world of difference to a pet in need. https://lnkd.in/dkrKMr2G https://lnkd.in/gGBFxgpw
