As a bit of balance to the usual noise. With the 🐣 Easter school holidays 🐣looming large, many families find themselves more stretched than usual and a lot of kids end up going hungry. So in the spirit of always looking for the helpers, please do consider (this includes companies) supporting and/or elevating organisations working on the ground to combat this reality as well as support kids in school who are not receiving meals. Some links below, but please do comment with more. ✨ Magic Breakfast - offers over 200,000 breakfasts every day to children and young people in schools across England and Scotland. https://lnkd.in/ecGbGcHJ ✨ FareShare - is a UK national network of charitable food redistributes, made up of 18 independent organisations. They take quality surplus food from across the food industry and deliver it to 8,500+ frontline charities and community groups. This includes school breakfast clubs, elderly people’s lunch clubs, homeless shelters and community cafes. https://fareshare.org.uk/ ✨ The Felix Project - aims to change the fact that millions of people in the UK regularly experience hunger, yet tonnes of surplus fresh food is thrown away every day. The project collects fresh, nutritious food that cannot be sold, and delivers it to schools and charities. They also run a specific programme in London, alongside The Mayors Fund, to tackle the issue of school holiday shortfalls. https://lnkd.in/eXVpcmgz https://lnkd.in/eb3d8BD2 ✨ Little Village - adding for good measure as they (and most baby banks) are constantly in need to support and donations as they receive an ask for help on average every 45 seconds right now, as 4,3 million children live in poverty in the UK.

Are you like me and are looking for ways to give back to others? I have volunteered at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) many times over the years. A few months ago, I stopped in and asked what more could I do beyond packing meals and donating money. As it turns out, they also need folks to speak to organizations (schools, churches, businesses....etc.) to inform them about FMSC. Recently, I was at an event where I spoke to high school students about FMSC and why what they do is so important. Did you know that 1 in 9 children go hungry each day? What's worse, an estimated 6200 children die each day from starvation. I think many of us 'know' this but are so far removed, that we are really numb to this crisis. I know the vast majority of the high schools students I spoke with were very much unaware. FMSC receives no government funding. They are 100% supported by volunteers (time to pack these meals and money to buy the food). They strive to keep administrative costs down and over 90% of the monetary donations go directly into the food costs. RAISING UP BRISTOL: One year in to Brewed to Give and we want to let you know about the impact of your last BBF pint. BBF has always looked for ways to give back to the city that made us. We’ve given beer and sponsorship, here and there, but often to customers and friends we already had a connection with. In 2020, we launched Clear Head to raise money for Talk Club, and that gave us a taste of beer for good. But we knew that our city needed more, and we wanted to rise to the challenge. We wanted to lead the charge! That’s why we launched Brewed to Give – to raise up Bristol communities with a 2% tax on total brewery sales. Over the past 12 months, we have donated more than £80k of stock, space and direct support to180 charities and good causes across our city. But the genius of the initiative, is that where appropriate, we invest our asset - Beer - then support communities to sell it, generating 3-5 times the cost price. In this way, our £80k investment has converted into £200k of unrestricted funds, kept by the community, for the community. No strings, no fuss, no funding reports! Every beer you buy gives back to Bristol and with thanks to you, the Brewed to Give budget has increased to £100k for 2024-25. This means we can support more epic projects, more frequently, across more parts of the city. But we're not going to stop there as we’re already planning on how we can make Brewed to Give bigger and better. From rolling out new pathways into brewing for local young people, to inspiring other businesses to join us, or make their own commitment to the city. “We think this idea is the essence of what the word 'community' stands for. You support the people who made you, you lead by example, you let people have a good time and help them run great events for good causes. It is a cycle of goodness! We hope other local businesses follow your lead!” Ruslan, volunteer for Friends of Henleaze Infant School Whether you access our support, join us as a business partner, or buy a BBF beer, just know that together, we’ve got Bristol’s back! Every beer you buy gives back to Bristol. To learn more or to apply for support, head to https://lnkd.in/eJYyNdWa #DRINKWITHPURPOSE

A Deeply Personal Appeal for Our Children and Community It is with a heavy heart that I share the devastating impact of the Government’s new strategy for the Ka Ora Ka Ako school lunches. For over a decade, Koha Kai has stood by our most vulnerable—children facing food insecurity, the elderly living in isolation, farmers struggling in remote areas, and countless others who depend on our support. The Numbers Don’t Add Up: - 236,000 children are presently receiving Ka Ora Ka Ako lunches (as of March 2024). This new arrangement at $3 per meal would mean a staggering cost of $148 million annually, not the previously estimated and now publicised $85 million contract. - Each meal costs $3, but what does that really provide? A lunch weighing less than half a pound of butter or an apple. Can this truly nourish our tamariki and set them up for success? Are Rural Schools Being Forgotten? How are our rural schools being catered for under this new plan? For two years, Koha Kai has travelled 140km daily to deliver meals to remote communities that no other supplier would serve. These trips weren’t just about school lunches; they are also lifelines for the elderly and disabled, in remote rural communities. The fresh meals we deliver allow these vulnerable people to remain in the communities they’ve always called home. The Fallout: Losing the Ka Ora Ka Ako contract threatens everything Koha Kai stands for. Our community gardens, Life skills programmes, and inclusive opportunities for rangatahi—everything that makes Murihiku vibrant and resilient—is now at risk. Without this support, Koha Kai may no longer exist, and with it, the heart of our community’s support system. We must acknowledge some existing suppliers will retain parts of their contracts until December 2025. After this date, the new arrangement will take over entirely, creating a monopoly that funnels even more funds offshore and leaving local organisations like ours struggling to continue. Attention Press and NZ Leaders: This is not just a local issue—it’s a reflection of how we value our children and our communities on a national stage. I urge the New Zealand Press and senior Government Officials to spotlight this critical issue. Together, we can advocate for a system that prioritises health, community, and sustainability over profit margins. Stand with Us to Make A Difference: Do we want to support local organisations that enrich our communities, or do we want to channel hundreds of millions annually to an offshore catering company that has won this contract? The choice impacts our children’s futures and the very fabric of our society. Let’s stand together for Ka Ora Ka Ako. Let’s ensure our tamariki have the nourishment they need to thrive and our communities remain strong and united. #KaOraKaAko #CommunityFirst #SupportLocal #NutritionMatters #RuralSupport #JoinUs #NewZealand https://lnkd.in/gc46E4a3

Costs are rising rising. Mobile Meals of Toledo has experienced a 25% increase in food costs, transportation, and, labor. Even with that we haven’t passed cost on. What does that mean? Do the math we are eating into our reserves. Also government, contract funding, and insurers increases support has only gone up from 0% to 6% in 3 years. Help us find a sustainable path forward
Meal costs have gone up 30% for Southeastern Idaho Community Action Agency, Inc. (SEICAA, Inc.)'s #MealsOnWheels program. They aren't alone. Rising costs for meals and gas are the top challenges our network faces as they continue delivering vital services to our aging neighbors.

Food insecurity is a worldwide problem that manifests itself locally in all our communities. Over the past few years, Curcio Webb, LLC’s holiday donation has been made to Chef José Andrés World Central Kitchen program. The World Central Kitchen teams are first on the spot wherever hot meals and human kindness are needed. Karen McKeon volunteered for a ½ day volunteer shift Thursday, June 27th at Mercer Street Friends Food Bank. In 2021, Karen directed her Curcio Webb charitable donation to Mercer Street Friends. At the time she shared that “the Mercer Street Friends Food Bank channels 5.5 million pounds of food and groceries annually to a network of over 100 local food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, meal sites, schools, senior and disabled programs, and low-income housing sites. Our food distribution and hunger prevention programs reach over 60,000 people who face the pain and indignity of hunger.” Five point five MILLION pounds annually—how impressive is that? The day Karen volunteered at the Food Bank they needed help labeling bags for “SHUP” (their Send HUnger Packing program). SHUP is a "meal bag program that helps feed food insecure students over the weekend when they lack access to school meals." It distributes 10,000 bags a month to students in need throughout Mercer County, New Jersey. Karen, your in-the-trenches work at the Food Bank is so important. Thank you! It’s not just students in Mercer County, New Jersey who run the risk of going hungry on the weekends. Curcio Webb is going to address local food insecurity for children at our upcoming annual company meeting. Brian Pieper and his wife Katie are spearheading an opportunity for us to pack bags of food for children to eat during the weekend. They’re tapping into a local program that helps kids get meals on weekends i.e., where they are already participating in a meals-at-school program. Are there suggestions from our wider community re programs that deserve our attention? Where do you like to volunteer your time and treasure -- in order to "Send Hunger Packing"? #foodbanks #foodinsecurity #givingback

Give to the Max Day is here! Today is a celebration of the incredible abundance of our community. It is a day to look within ourselves to acknowledge and share the unique abundance in each of our lives: How am I showing up for my neighbors today? How can I challenge attitudes of scarcity, when I know that our community has each other's backs? What can I do today to make sure my neighbors know they can count on our community safety net? 2024 is the hungriest year our community has ever seen. CEAP is on track for a record amount of food served as we see the highest need for our Food Market in our 52-year history. At the same time, we know that many neighbors face barriers - like mobility challenges and lack of access to transportation – that prevent them from reaching CEAP’s doors. That’s where “CEAP On the Move” steps in. No matter the barrier, CEAP is here to fill gaps in access. We need to know – are you with us in the fight against hunger? www.givemn.org/CEAP24
