For anyone who knows me, I love being around people and I love getting stuff done- but you don’t always get a chance to hear from 7 different organisations in one day (I’ve signed up to 7 sessions, you can register for more/ less). For me, RecFest isn’t just a talent acquisition festival but it’s all-day insights hearing about how industry professionals are recruiting- what works for them, ways of modernising our way of talent pooling and attraction, and how to embed DEI into all of this as a single unified thread. In 1996, through a beaten up old radio, I listened to Oasis play their most iconic tunes to a record breaking crowd at Knebworth. Hard to believe in just five days the 25th Annual #UsedCarWeek will begin, back in Scottsdale, AZ, Nov 18-21 - https://usedcarweek.biz/ When I say it’s a “must attend” event of the year, I’m not just recommending it for other people – I’ve been coming to this since the beginning – note: the CD’s from 2001 & 2002 below, can’t find the others from those early days (I think maybe they are still in a CD player somewhere 😊). Which makes me even more proud to be a speaker this year, and, of course, delighted in general to absorb everything I can from all of the other great speakers, in the four-day, six track, most comprehensive program (Pre-Owned Track, Auto Fin Track, Repo Track, The National Remarketing Conference Track, and The National Auto Venture & Investors Conference NAVIcon Track). I have to say this one is extra special, not only because somehow the Cherokee Media Group crew always seems to make the best better ever year, but because our very own COO at Driveitaway, Adam Potash, is among AutoRemarketing Industry “40 under 40” awardees celebrated at the Thursday luncheon. Congratulations Adam and all of the awardees! This is a major milestone for us as we complete 10 years of STUFFCOOL. As I look back at my long journey - I started in 1981 when I was 19 years old under the guidance of my father. 1981 - 1983: Launched my own brand "FUJISAN" with Car Stereo Players and Tape recorders ... but failed to grow and had to close in 1983! Reason for failing - no experience with how brand grows over time and wanted instant result 1983-1990: Started as OE manufacturing for Nelco (A Tata Company) and Bush Radio. Learned the basics of mass manufacturing from the Nelco team but more importantly learned how to innovate from Mr J R Mulchandani of Bush Radio and made path-breaking products like Indis's First CD player Radio Cassette Recorder and even manufactured AKAI Hi-Fi systems. 1991-2000: Then entered PHILIPS as my OE Customer and this was almost an institute that taught me so many new things - How to Design from scratch? How to implement a Quality Management System? How to manage vendors? I was introduced to top OEMs in China who were making for Philips worldwide and was fortunate to visit many of them to learn about innovation in production assembly lines. For Philips, we made Walkmans - first from imported CKD SKD kits, then made plastic moulds in India and lastly even started to make Tape Deck Mechanism in India. 2000-2006: With the shift in major import policy which allowed the import of finished consumer goods and with some tax advantage at Himachal etc, we had to close our manufacturing. My brother Jiten Budhdeo started the regional distribution of White goods for Mumbai city and I was busy closing down all manufacturing activities. 2007- 2013: Got some foresight that Apple would introduce a portable MP3 player (iPod) and also there would be a big boom coming in Mobile phones, I started as a National Distributor for Griffin, Golla and Capdase accessories. We became pioneers in Organised Distribution for Tech Accessories - perhaps it was the right time at the right place. With the CAPDASE brand, we scaled to an all-time high revenue and established a solid distribution network in Main Line Markets. 2013: We decided that we have manufactured for others for 40 years and distributed for others for 13 years - why not start our own? And then with my brother Jiten Budhdeo and Son Dhaval Budhdeo, we launched Stuffcool. Starting with the purpose of making affordable world-class tech accessories for India we are now committed as "Our Vision is to make quality tech products that enrich our average consumers' lives and are designed especially for India, at a sweet Indian price.
