Finding sustainable alternatives More than a third of waste in global landfill is estimated to be of demolition and construction origin, therefore, finding and using low carbon alternatives within construction would be a huge step to achieving Net Zero Carbon emissions. Whilst doing research as part of the sustainability team at Bond Bryan, I came across some websites which produce bricks made from recycled content. Kenoteq produce both bricks and brick slips that are made from near 100% local recycled content. Their bricks contain 95% less embodied carbon than a traditional clay bricks and slips and are 100% recyclable and reusable. They have a carbon calculator on their website where you can find out how much carbon you could save on your project, if this product was specified. 🌍 Thrilled to highlight a last project of our Sustainability Awards in the category “𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻”. 🥈Runner-up: External batts acquisition in North America by Nancy C. Easterbrook, Peggy Foster, 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗲 𝗭𝗶𝗻𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 and Dan Devan. ♻️By collecting unused brick or shape type refractories from our customers' sites, we help them avoid landfills, reduce inventory, and free up valuable space.  🚀The project team created a new operating procedure to systematize this practice, leveraging collaboration across departments  as a key success factor! The new procedure helped fill a gap, creating the potential for repeated success in acquiring batts, and saving time. In 2023 alone, we achieved remarkable results: 390.3 MT of batts acquired.
