Ever wondered why wine connoisseurs whisper the name "Wachau Valley" with reverence? Let's uncork the truth about this Austrian gem. Nestled along the Danube River, the Wachau Valley is not just another picturesque European locale; it's a viticultural legacy. Despite its acclaim, some still hold onto outdated notions that the region is inaccessible or exclusively for the elite oenophile. Let's clarify a few things. Firstly, the idea that Wachau's wines are only for the well-versed is as misleading as a corked Riesling. Yes, the wines here are exceptional, but they're crafted for everyone to appreciate. The vintners are passionate educators, eager to share their knowledge with visitors of all levels of wine expertise. Secondly, the perception that a trip to Wachau is complicated or requires intricate planning is far from reality. As a travel agent specializing in luxury small group travel and river cruises, I can attest to the seamless experience that awaits. A river cruise through the Wachau Valley offers an intimate, relaxed journey through rolling vineyards and medieval towns, with the convenience of unpacking just once. Lastly, let's address the myth that Wachau is solely about the wine. While the Grüner Veltliner and Riesling are undoubtedly stars, the region's cultural landscape is rich with monasteries, castles, and markets, offering a full-bodied experience beyond the vine. If you're looking to explore the Wachau Valley, whether it's on a river cruise or a small ship ocean cruise that docks nearby, the key is to embrace the journey with an open mind and palate. Beach or mountains? More and more people are opting for a third option: WINE TOURISM 🍷 Today, almost in a summer mood☀️, I’m sharing some figures and the profile of the wine tourist in Spain, revealed by the latest ACEVIN report on this topic. 🌍 Spain currently has the largest vineyard area on the planet and boasts 37 certified wine routes spread across the country. Since 2014, the annual number of visitors to the wineries and museums of Spain’s Wine Routes has not fallen below 2 million. According to the study, in 2022 the 3 routes with the highest number of visitors were: 🥇1. Marco de Jerez: 333,781 visitors. 🥈2. Ribera del Duero: 281,918 visitors. 🥉3. Rioja Alta: 213,974 visitors. Domestic tourism remains predominant at 80%, but international tourism has increased by 5% compared to the previous year, reaching 20%. Among these international visitors, the most successful Spanish wine routes are: 🍇 Gran Canaria: 66.5% 🍇 Alicante: 41.5% 🍇 Penedès: 38.5% In my weekly newsletter, I share content like this but in more detail, so you stay informed about everything that interests you 🙂 You can subscribe here: https://lnkd.in/dEzEeKqq What type of wine tourist are you or which ones do you receive at your winery? WHERE DOES THE VINEYARD STAND? For some years, wine tourism has expanded from the tasting room to the vineyard: age, density of vines, grape varieties. Over the years, the agricultural dimension has become increasingly distant from the consumer, and wine tourism is one of the keys to returning to the farming world, at least for a few hours, in safety and tranquillity. 🌳 From the point of view of the hiker, the vineyard is an intermediate point: it belongs to the winery and is private property, but at the same time, it belongs to the world of open air, 🌞 light, rain, and grass underfoot, without which it could not exist. #TheWineWalk is the ideal continuation of the vineyard towards the outside world rather than in the winery's direction. It is for those who want to read the route in the correct sequence: starting from an ideal point and through a path between past and present, arriving together at the winery—on foot, at a relaxed pace, without stress. The route is designed in advance, but the guests are an important and unpredictable part. You never know beforehand whether the most exciting part of the itinerary is an abandoned church, a century-old plant, or a bougainvillea blossom. 🌺 And that is when you get to the vineyard: to the ripening fruit assisted by man before disappearing into the cellar between barrels of different materials and nature. From there to the tasting, the step is short. 🍷 Cheers! #tourism #foodandwinetourism #hiking #winetours #wineexperience #pdowines #winelovers

Dear Tour Operator! 🍷 You who send hundreds of thousands of guests to Italy throughout the year, excited to discover our squares, art, and food, have you ever stopped to ask: Which wineries are most suitable for my clients to visit with tasting? 🤔 Along with evaluating price, you ask yourself this question when choosing the hotels where your clients will stay: Why isn't this research also deepened towards wine producers? Mind you, we are not criticizing the goodness of the product or the reputation of an individual company, but I don't understand how it is possible to be so superficial in dealing with a subject that is "on everyone's lips" but then end up choosing mediocre spaces, sometimes even without any winery and only a few barrels to refresh the memory. On the other hand, they present so many references that even an Horeca buyer needs clarification. It's time to reconsider the notion that 'customers don't know anyway,' particularly for high-end clients. 📈 Many of them have extensive travel experience and a keen understanding of wine. Even if wine isn't the primary focus of their trip, they can appreciate and evaluate the products, the range, the presentation, and the company as a whole. By acknowledging and catering to their knowledge and preferences, you can provide a more tailored and satisfying experience. 🍾 While it is true that we need to move away from commodity wine, this also applies to the tourist. We try to understand who our guests are because the more we respect them, the more they will trust us for a magnificent new "experience." Cheers! 🥂 ENIT S.p.A. This year I have attended Vinitaly after many years. Among the four main wine fairs, Vinitaly (the other one being ProWein, Wine Paris and Millésime Bio) was the best organized one. ProWein has been for years my main focus, but I think that its limit is being in Düsseldorf. This year I could not go. The city offers too little for a global oenogastronomic crowd and the prices were skyrocketing. Maybe it's time to consider doing it in another city? We should try to remember that those working in the wine industry are directly or indirectly involved with tourism and hospitality, therefore they might want/need to go to locations offering different choices, standards and opportunity. Wine Paris: what a chaos. Ok, fine, you are in Paris, the touristic capital by excellence, but the downsides are an overcrowded public transporation system, non-existing taxis, and fair premises where one has almost to climb a hill..... Millésime Bio: very interesting fair and well organized, if only they organized the producers' stands per region and not randomly. Montpellier is a lovely and calm city, public transportation is good. To my own surprise, Vinitaly was great. Everything was clear and clean, food was great and one can taste so many different grape varieties, like nowhere else. The main train station is near. Verona is also a touristic and beautiful place to go. Vinitaly Official ProWein Millésime BIO Vinexposium #winefairs #wine #tourism #hospitality
