Ammonia is the most significant odor-causing nitrogen compound. Odor-causing substances are mainly volatile organic compounds (VOCs), sulfur compounds and nitrogen compounds. All of these are released as organic matter decomposes. On-farm biogas plants reduce odours in a two different locations. #biogasplant #biogasprocess

Government institutions such as the #Environmental Protection Agency have set various regulations for the application of #biofuels. Biodiesel also known as biofuel can be produced from plant sources such as algae, #wasteoils, #palmoil, and camelina; from solid biomass using a #chemical process called #transesterification which converts #natural fats and oils into fatty acid methyl esters or biodiesel. High-quality biodiesel is produced from rapeseed, however, most of the biodiesel is produced from waste vegetable oils obtained from chip shops, restaurants, and industrial food producers. 🤔 Biogas from sugar beet pulp? Yes, we can ✅ TotalEnergies has joined forces with the renowned French sugar group, Cristal Union, in a groundbreaking initiative to produce biogas from sugar beet pulp. 🌱 👉 Over the next 15 years, Cristal Union will supply sugar beet pulps to fuel BioNorrois, TotalEnergies' upcoming biomethane production unit currently under construction in Fontaine-le-Dun, Seine-Maritime. The facility is set to commence operations by the end of 2024. ➡️ This venture will see organic residues from Cristal Union's sugar beet processing, constituting over half of the initial feedstock processed by the biomethane plant. TotalEnergies will complement this with organic agro-food waste sourced locally. In its initial phase, BioNorrois’s capacity will get close to 100 GWh of biomethane annually, reaching its maximum capacity of 153 GWh per year in the long run. ♻️ As part of the circular economy model, the agreement is exemplary on several grounds: 📌 Cristal Union acquires a stake in BioNorrois, in a full partnership spirit. 📌 The biomethane production plant is situated next to Cristal Union facility. 📌 The organic fertilizer generated during the anaerobic digestion process will be fully utilized by Cristal Union and NatUp Group. They will distribute it to nearby cooperative farmers, supporting their transition to more localized and sustainable fertilization practices. 👏 #Biogas #BioNorrois #CircularEconomy #TotalEnergies #CristalUnion #Biomethane

Anaerobic Digestion (AD) is the process of biological degradation and consumption of organic matter resulting in producing biogas consisting of CO2 and CH4. Commercial success requires a fully optimized process, ensuring consumption of the food source is maximized in the shortest period of time possible, this requires a catalyst. Bio-Organic Catalyst has been used in this trial in two phases, firstly a controlled batch observation to ascertain the effect it would have on the consumption of the feedstock in a controlled environment and secondly to observe this effect under a full-scale dosing regimen. #BioCatalyst grows as grey, (light) brown or black granules in anaerobic reactors like the Paques BIOPAQ® reactors and similar technologies. Paques has guaranteed availability of BioCatalyst from industries like the brewery, food or pulp & paper industry, were the granules convert high concentrated biodegradable organic present in wastewater to biogas and new biomass. Paques BioCatalyst is shipped in tanker trucks or ISO containers and is available from stock, enabling fast delivery on a tight schedule. Ideal for a start-up or restart after a calamity. #Compressed_Bio_Gas from #Press_Mud_/#Filter_Cake Press mud, also known as filter cake, is a by-product of the sugarcane industry. It is the residual material left after the clarification of cane juice. Its composition can vary depending on the processing methods and the type of sugarcane used, but typically, it includes: Moisture: 60-80% Organic Matter: 15-25% Calcium: 2-4% Phosphorus: 1-3% Nitrogen: 0.5-2% Potassium: 0.5-1% Magnesium: 0.5-1% Micronutrients: Trace amounts of iron, zinc, copper, and manganese Fibrous Material: Cellulose and lignin The presence of organic matter and nutrients makes press mud a valuable material for agricultural use, particularly as a soil conditioner and organic fertilizer. Compressed Biogas (CBG) Production from Press Mud: CBG production from press mud involves anaerobic digestion, a biological process where microorganisms break down organic matter in the absence of oxygen to produce biogas. The main steps include: Pre-treatment: Press mud is prepared by reducing its particle size and sometimes adding water to achieve the desired consistency. Anaerobic Digestion: The prepared press mud is fed into an anaerobic digester, where it is decomposed by bacteria. This process generates biogas, primarily composed of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2). Biogas Purification: The raw biogas is purified to remove impurities and increase the methane content, making it suitable for use as compressed biogas. Compression and Storage: The purified biogas is compressed and stored in high-pressure cylinders for transportation and use. The resulting biogas can be used as a renewable energy source for cooking, electricity generation, and as a vehicle fuel, contributing to sustainable waste management and energy production. Happy to share our (with my Ph.D. supervisor) recent publication, titled "Valorization of fruit and vegetable waste in a novel three-stage hybrid anaerobic digester for enhanced biogas production: Performance study and microbial community analysis", in the Biochemical Engineering Journal (IF: 3.9, H-index: 143) with everyone. https://lnkd.in/gJkyjJRx The published work discusses the importance and advantages of switching to three-stage suspended-growth plus attached-growth biomass systems for stabilizing fruit and vegetable wastes (FVWs), which not only comprise a major percentage of the generated organic fractions of the municipal solid waste but offer several options - vis-à-vis biogas generation, ethanol and fatty acids production - towards contributing to the circular economy. A multistage (e.g., three-stage) anaerobic digestion system offers several advantages, like enhanced biohydrogen and methane production, generation of medium-chain fatty acids (through reverse beta oxidation) and short-chain fatty acids (e.g. acetate via homoacetogenesis), besides generating high quality digestate or solid residue - which finds application as a soil conditioner and in the production of refuse derived fuel (RDF). The published article gives an understanding of the performance - COD and VFA removal, and biogas generation (percentage and yield) under semi-batch operation - of a hybrid three-stage anaerobic digester which valorized fruit and vegetable wastes besides revealing the important microbial communities involved in the three distinct steps. The article can be accessed free of cost using the given link.
