It is a serious #environmental concern due to its potential to #pollute #groundwater, #surface #water, and #soil. #Algae-based leachate treatment is a promising alternative that offers several advantages over #conventional #methods. #algae have a high capacity to absorb and accumulate #pollutants from wastewater. 📌 #algae can also be used to produce #biomass for #bioenergy or #biofuel. 📌 #algal #biomass can be used for the production of bio #fertilizer, bio-#feed or other valuable products. Overall, #algae-based leachate treatment is a #sustainable and #cost-effective technology that has the potential to significantly reduce the environmental impact of leachate from #landfills and other #waste disposal sites. New work "Pretreatment of wheat straw using ammonia rich-liquid fraction of digestate: Contribution of biological and non-biological components in methane yield" recently published. The study found that biogas slurry (BS) pretreatment significantly enhances the biodegradability and methane production of wheat straw (WS) by breaking down its lignocellulose structure through the synergistic action of ammonia nitrogen and microorganisms. This method increased methane production by 23.8% and provided 33.2% higher economic benefits compared to no pretreatment, making it a cost-effective and efficient strategy for biogas production. https://lnkd.in/gxeFtHkw

For the large biogas plants, biogas can be produced by treating manure in large farms or treating straw, napier grass and other crop straws. The biogas output is more than 10,000 m³ per day, which can be used for power generation or purified into natural gas. I am thrilled to announce the publication of our recent paper titled "Anaerobic co-digestion of lignocellulosic/lipidic wastes with cattle manure: Investigating biogas production and methane yield" In this study, we delved into the realm of anaerobic co-digestion (AcoD) by investigating the synergistic potential of lignocellulosic and lipidic wastes when co-digested with cattle manure. Here are some key highlights from our paper: 1️⃣ Explored biogas production from lignocellulosic and lipidic wastes via ACoD. 2️⃣ Utilized mesophilic single-stage anaerobic digesters in batch mode over 120 days. 3️⃣ Evaluated various inoculum-to-substrate ratios (ISRs) and substrate composition ratios (SCRs). 4️⃣ Achieved the highest biogas yield of 0.128 m3/kg-VS_{added} at ISR 0.5 and SCR 4. 5️⃣ Found that the LF kinetic model exhibited the highest compatibility with experimental data. Our study sheds light on the potential of AcoD as a sustainable waste management solution and offers insights into optimizing biogas production and methane yield. The findings of our research provide valuable insights for optimizing AcoD processes and advancing sustainable waste management practices. We are excited about the implications of our work and look forward to further advancements in this field. Adding 2% biochar from wood or faecal sludge significantly boosts methane production during anaerobic digestion of water hyacinth and cow dung.
