Yesterday I had the pleasure of sitting down with the country’s Chancellor, Rt Hon Rachel Reeves, in her Downing Street office. Rachel's drive and passion are palpable, and in such an intimate setting, you get a true sense of her commitment to helping improve the economic situation in this country through smarter taxation, tighter controls on how money is spent, and better budgeting. Irrespective of your political allegiances and beliefs (including my own, which I wouldn’t dream of sharing on such a platform), I found her drive and command of the issues impressive. It was great to discuss how Forterro is doing its part for the UK economy and our wider relationship with the EU. As one of the largest privately held software companies in the UK, with such a large Europe-wide footprint, we are a beacon for international industry, headquartered in the UK. Rachel and I also discussed how we continue to make the UK the right home for entrepreneurs from all backgrounds and industries, particularly in the tech space. How our economy recovers and then evolves in the next 12 months is key not just for this new government but for millions of households up and down the country, so it was good to also discuss how I may be able to support the government in several areas that my team at Forbes Family Group and I care deeply about. I respect everyone’s views and their right to stand behind their political assertions, but I would never allow my political views to stand in the way of supporting those running the country to make progress on issues that affect people like me, with backgrounds like mine. Should that opportunity materialise in an impactful way that aligns with my and the FFG team’s values, we will surely be there to play our part. A great meeting with a fellow South Londoner, nonetheless!
This is why representation matters; it's about ensuring that we engage in the right conversations with diverse leaders. We need to create equity, but that can't be achieved if we keep seeking answers from those who don't have lived experiences, diversity of background or culture! Seeing the government engaging in the right conversations with the right people is great! Dean Forbes and Forbes Family Group are accelerating the pace of change we all went to see!
