🌍 The Future Starts Now: Building a Case for WASH Investment to Achieve the SDGs 💧 As Leaders gather for https://lnkd.in/eSj3zu8W at UN HQ, it's crucial to underscore how WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) is the bedrock of sustainable development. Without urgent investment in WASH, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—from eradicating poverty and hunger to promoting gender equality, health and wellbeing and climate action—will remain an uphill battle. High-level policy and decision makers from Tanzania at this summit should touch base on the essential role of WASH in accelerating progress across the SDGs, particularly in safeguarding the most vulnerable, empowering women and girls, and addressing emerging global challenges like pandemics and climate change. This is the time to prioritize WASH and ensure we are building a future that is not only just and equitable but sustainable for all. 🛠️ Tackling the gender #digitaldivide requires innovative, mission-driven strategies. On this #InternationalWomensDay 2024, let's move beyond "celebration" and delve into introspection. It's not just about applauding the accomplishments of women; it's about acknowledging the work yet to be done. Nowhere is this more true than in Brussels, the heart of European politics, and the Eurobubble, where decisions shaping 27 countries are made. Often times, I find myself in rooms where the majority of people are men or where there is a manel (all-male panel). Gender diversity is essential for well-rounded decision-making, and it starts with representation. Encouraging more women to enter politics, diplomacy, and other pivotal roles within the Eurobubble is a crucial step. Especially in a city where, as a woman, it is very easy to succumb to impostor syndrome. Women empowerment and inclusion are not just buzzwords; they are a commitment to action. In Brussels, it's time to move beyond rhetoric and ensure that women are not only present but also influential in decision-making processes. This means dismantling barriers that hinder women's progression and fostering an environment where their voices are not just heard but also taken into account. As we celebrate the accomplishments of women in the EU, there is a collective responsibility to advocate for policies that ensure women are not only present at the decision-making table but are also actively shaping the future of the European Union. Embracing the full potential of women in decision-making is not only a step towards gender parity but a stride towards more comprehensive, equitable, and effective governance in Brussels and throughout the EU. The program aims to identify and fund innovative solutions to significantly improve and save the lives of people affected by #conflict. 💰 Current Funding Opportunity: CHIC seeks #innovation ideas for its Transition to Scale (TTS) program, offering CAD $300,000 to $1.5 million for 12-24 months. Attended United Nations #UNGA79 panel discussions in NYC thanks to an invitation from Foreign Policy & Mastercard & BillMelindaGates Foundation to attend the "#GenderEquity Ambitions into Action" #herpower meeting where some amazing women spoke about achieving gender equity and how it sits at the core of a range of SDGs, with ambitions often failing to translate into actions and impact at scale. After decades of piecemeal progress, including historic gains in women’s health and educational outcomes, COVID-19 and a lack of prioritization have contributed to backsliding in these and various other areas that have undermined economic opportunity, threatened security, and had cascading impacts on societies writ large. As the international community gathers for a seminal UNGA featuring the once-in-a-generation Summit of the Future, how can policymakers and stakeholders ensure that gender remains at the center of discussions, rather than being included as an afterthought? And how can innovative programs and emerging technologies unlock opportunity and access for women around the world? As a technology professional (and one of the few men in the room), I kept hearing themes about how #data #analytics #knowledge & #information can be utilized to save women's and children's lives around the world. Glad to see the reenforcement of democratic principles in the communique following the #G7summit in Agulia where the G7 countries leaders confirmed " their commitment to more effective, inclusive and equitable global governance". Within the multiples topics and issues( Ukraine, Gaza, Africa, global food security and climate resilience, migration, global economic grow, #AI .... ) covered during this summit, I am pleased to see some of our recommendations untitled " World needs Women #leadership and sageness" made by the G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council (GEAC) led by Marina Terragni resulting from our collaborative work with Chiara Corazza Sarah Sands Loredana Teodorescu, PhD Hedwige Nuyens Laura Frigenti Lierre Keith Frances Fitzgerald Melanne Verveer, Düzen Tekkal . You can find below the executive summary " Reaffirming our commitment to #gender equality. Together with international and financial institutions, we will unlock at least USD 20 billions over three year in investments to boost women 's empowerment". More details in the press release under the section on " gender equality" i.e : promote women #empowerment in all areas and in particular in decision making processes including STEM sector, meanstreaming gender equality in all policies areas and in particular in our foreign policy , fight against all discrimination and gender based violence in particular in conflicts and in digital area; tackle the unequal gender distribution of care work, progress on the #Women,Peace, security agenda and support women peacebuilders in conflicts setting . And last but not least : promote equal access to "safe, inclusive and equitable quality #education for all girls " with a focus on Africa. These recommandations will be detailed in the final report of the G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council (GEAC) to be published at the end of the year on the 4 priorities selected : #conflicts, #care, ;#GenZ and #education based on the results of the country gender dashboards just published by OECD - OCDE. It is a good step but there are still a lot to do to transform these recommandations in actions ! However I am sorry to see that discussions took place regarding the #abortion right which finally has not been included in the final release which refers to the importance of "equal access to health and reproductive rights" for all women without mentioning - as it has been done last year in Japan - the access to abortion in safe and legal conditions. A missing opportunity to reenforce this fundamental right in all G7 countries ! Looking to continue to contribute to the efforts to drive more gender equity and promote women leadership in particular in STEM education with the G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council (GEAC) members.
