Another awesome podcast by Matt Abrahams with Charles Duhigg. What made it so awesome? There were multiple ah-ha moments in their conversation that connected an action with reasoning and explanation. When someone can make sense of something and help establish a connection, things make sense. Now I also understand why my wife and I disagree during certain conversations because she's having an emotional conversation while I'm trying to be practical. So much I can learn and take from these podcasts! #podcast #thinkfasttalksmart #communication #conversation

Another wonderful podcast by Think Fast, Talk Smart with Matt Abrahams. Very useful tips and suggestions when dealing with a skeptical audience. The best part is, their suggestions apply to multiple situations and audiences. I personally like the idea of using reframing to refocus the conversation's main point. #thinkfasttalksmart #podcast #communication https://lnkd.in/g2KjbeJK

One common misconception about active listening is confusing good listening skills with agreement. A person may understand what is being said, but that doesn’t also mean they will comply with what they heard. #LawdYesSaidEveryParentEVER! So, how do we take care not to disrespect our listener or speaker? There is much more on the line with engaged listening than I had previously considered. It reminds me how easily in our remote world we can misinterpret a video call if our listener/speaker’s camera is on a different monitor than the one they are receiving their counterpart’s image. One sees a distracted speaker/listener, the other sees only their counterpart’s face. Engaged and poor listening has an impact not just on the listener, but also on the speaker. Below, an excerpt from a discussion on Hidden Brain with Guy Itzchakov where he reveals that distracted listeners cause the speaker to stumble through their communication, impacting their ability to recall the same story to future listeners. So many great gems about active listening in this podcast - link in comments! 🤓 #WednesdayWisdom #ComplianceVersusComprehension #BlubBlubBlub

That podcast I just shared got me thinking – we often talk about communication in business, but how often do we focus on active listening? It's not just about waiting for your turn to speak. It's about truly hearing what the other person is saying, digesting it, and being completely in the moment with them. In the analytics world, where I'm usually at, this means a lot. It's not about quickly firing off a solution; it's about understanding the layers behind every question or comment. When we actively listen to what our colleagues or clients are saying, we're not just collecting data points – we're connecting with their real needs and ideas. Active listening isn't just about crafting the smartest response on the spot. It's about creating a genuine connection, where you're both contributing to a conversation that could lead to some awesome insights. It's about getting past the surface level and diving deeper into what's really being said. So, here’s to bringing more active listening into our chats, meetings, and even those quick catch-ups by the coffee machine (virtual or real). Let’s make our conversations count for more than just exchanging words. Who knows what ideas and opportunities we might uncover!

🎙️ Friday Audio Tip: Crafting the Perfect Podcast Intro and Outro 🎙️ The intro and outro of your podcast are crucial in setting the tone and leaving a lasting impression on your listeners. Here are some tips to ensure yours stand out: 1. Keep It Short and Sweet: Your intro should be a quick, engaging snapshot of what your podcast is about. Aim for 15-30 seconds to grab attention without losing listeners. 2. Use a Catchy Hook: Start with a memorable sound bite or music that reflects your podcast’s theme. This helps in creating brand recall every time your audience tunes in. 3. Clear and Concise Messaging: Introduce yourself, the podcast title, and what listeners can expect in a clear and engaging manner. Avoid cluttering with too much information. 4. Professional Voiceover: Consider using a professional voiceover for a polished touch. It adds credibility and sets a professional tone right from the start. 5. Consistent Branding: Use the same intro and outro music and style across all episodes for consistency. This helps in building a recognizable brand. 6. Call to Action: End with a call to action in your outro. Encourage listeners to subscribe, leave a review, or visit your website for more content. Bonus Tip: Consider using short "hooks" of your theme music to break up ideas and segments as you go through the podcast. These segment openers and closers keep the flow engaging and help listeners navigate your content. Remember, studies show that audio quality significantly impacts believability and authority. Investing in high-quality audio is not just about sounding good; it's about establishing trust with your audience. Crafting a compelling intro and outro can significantly enhance your podcast’s professionalism and listener engagement. Need help perfecting your podcast’s sound? The Rhythm of Impactful Speaking: 92 Beats Per Minute When it comes to podcasting or public speaking, it’s not just what you say, but how you say it. Research suggests that the ideal speaking rhythm for engagement is around 92 beats per minute and it’s all about creating a flow that resonates with listeners. The Science Behind the Beat Studies have shown that 92 bpm mirrors the natural cadence of conversational speech. This rhythm helps listeners process information more smoothly and keeps their attention longer, as it aligns with the brain’s natural ability to follow and absorb spoken information. At this pace, words aren’t lost in speed or dragged in slow motion; it’s the sweet spot where engagement thrives. Why It Matters In a podcast or any public speaking setting, the rhythm of your words can: - Hold Audience Attention: A steady pace prevents listener fatigue, making your message clearer. - Build Connection: A conversational rhythm feels more natural, fostering trust and rapport with your audience. - Enhance Memory Retention: A balanced pace helps audiences retain more of what you’re saying, crucial for educational or motivational topics. Next time you’re speaking, consider pacing yourself around 92 bpm. Find your rhythm, and watch how your words resonate! #PublicSpeaking #Podcasting #CommunicationSkills #AudienceEngagement
