Don't want to eat bugs in the future? There's a kind of beef that produces 78% less greenhouse gas and uses space 2000% more efficiently than ordinary beef while consuming 80% less water. Meat without the bacteria, animal suffering, or environmental degradation. It can even be grown in low fat varieties that makes red meat healthier for your heart! Better for you and better for the planet. It's common for ordinary meat to become infected by fecal bacteria released in the slaughtering process, but cultured meat comes from shiny metal drums that make sure your dinner is safe and healthy. Because of the absence of harmful bacteria it even lasts longer on the shelf without preservatives, which helps reduce food waste! In the long term this process has the potential to be substantially cheaper than ordinary meat production, which will improve the finances and diets of low income people around the world. https://lnkd.in/ebMBTWij #food #science #environment #health #planet #foodscience #foodwaste #future #tech #protein #hygiene

“Meat could go one of two ways: Cultivated meat could sputter out. Livestock’s effects on our health and the environment could drive up its costs. We in the rich world could have to return to a time when we ate meat for special occasions, as millions of others still do, because they can only rarely afford it. Or the new factory-farmed meat could take off. In this future, our supermarket meat counters could offer bioreactor beef alongside a grass-fed option. And in that future, we would have to confront some new meaty questions. Will we still sacrifice a goat to praise our gods? Is a Sunday roast still special if there’s no skin and bone? Who will get to bite into what kind of meat? How will we make sense of the flesh on our plates?” https://lnkd.in/er-FXGxy

Last month we were talking about the viability for ‘cultivated’ meat entering the UK food chain (catch up here if you missed it https://lnkd.in/gWW-bhAZ ), but have we now moved a step closer? It’s been widely reported that London start-up Meatly, has developed the world’s first lab-grown cat food – with chicken as a source of protein. According to The Grocer, the “cruelty-free chicken” was created in collaboration with the company’s first brand partner, Omni, which focuses on creating novel proteins. Meatly says that 20% of meat is currently used to feed our pets – and they have a solution that’s kinder, more sustainable and just as nutritious and delicious! With owners turning to quality products, and a nutrition led approach to feeding their pets, is this indicative of things to come for our food too? https://lnkd.in/gbuDt6VU #culivatedmeat #labgrown #futurefood #foodtechnology

Food is at the heart of our daily lives, but the way it's produced, distributed, and consumed is changing fast. Traditionally, food was locally grown or home-raised, with families tending to their land and livestock. But over time, the rise of industrialized food production shifted things dramatically. We're now in the midst of what many call the Fourth Industrial Revolution, where big brands and corporations dominate the food industry, and small, family-owned farms struggle to keep up. https://lnkd.in/eN66qrTQ
