Ever heard of the 5 Whys technique? It's like a detective game for problem-solving! You start with a problem and then continuously asking "why" until you uncover the real root cause 🧠 Why is this important? Well, by figuring out the real reasons behind problems, we can come up with smarter solutions. It's like treating the cause, not just the symptoms. Plus, it helps us learn and grow as a team. When we understand why things go wrong, we can ensure they don't happen again. This technique isn't just about fixing stuff; it's about getting to the heart of the matter. Ever faced a similar challenge in your line of work? What do you think might be causing those issues? What's better for a team? 1 tool that does 5 things adequately or 5 tools that do 1 thing at a best-in-class rate? It's not a straightforward answer unfortunately. Here's what I mean. If you're a rapidly growing company with money to burn, perhaps the results you will get from paying for 5 individual tools will outweigh the cost. Meanwhile, a smaller, slower growing organization may be able to use the limited feature set of the individual tool more appropriately than it's large counterpart. Ultimately what I want you to leave this post with is that there is no one-tool-fits-all. It's why I'm an advocate for consistent, frequent tech audits. They're simple but effective ways to understand if you're tools are still matching your goals or if you've outgrown them and need an overhaul.

Good morning, Team. Today, I want to talk about the importance of inspecting subcontractors’ inspectors and their work. It’s easy to fall into the trap of assuming that everything is safe just because a green tag is attached or a box is checked. However, relying solely on these indicators without verifying the inspection process can lead to overlooked hazards. Before Accepting a Green Tag: Verify the Inspector’s Work: Don’t assume the green tag means the inspection was done thoroughly. Double-check their findings to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards. Review the Documentation: Ensure that proper inspection logs and reports are provided and align with the project's requirements. A missing or incomplete report is a red flag. Communicate Expectations: Clarify with subcontractors and their inspectors that safety is non-negotiable, and proper inspections are essential. During Verification: Inspect the Inspectors: Observe how the inspection is performed. Are they checking all the critical components, or are they cutting corners? Cross-Check Key Safety Items: Ensure that important safety systems or equipment are functioning as intended, regardless of the tag or label. Identify Gaps: If something feels off or isn’t documented, don’t hesitate to escalate the issue. It’s better to ask questions now than deal with consequences later. If there are discrepancies: Contact the subcontractor to fix their work. Even if it’s a bolt, that was their job to complete. Remember: A green tag does not guarantee safety. It is your responsibility to verify that inspections are done properly, and hazards are addressed before proceeding with work. Trust but verify every step of the way. P.S.: Always prioritize a culture of accountability. Hold subcontractors and their inspectors to the same high standards that we set for ourselves. “Safety Takes Time, so Take the Time for Safety” Stay Safe, Dwayne Smith, CSP

This is my clients biggest worry… But Oshri what happens if there is an emergency and you are not reachable? My answer is always the same: “If you need my involvement during an emergency, please fire me immidiately because I didn’t do my job. I will train your team, give them the tools, setup the processes so that they can and will deal with any issue that arises on their own” I build resilience in tech orgs, if they need their hands healthy during an emergency, we have much bigger problems to deal with. Usually this answer is very satisfactory and we move forward :-)

New Team on Exclerate and It has been a new experience on the team Solomon Ogbonna! New methods to learn and lots of inputs provided on how the data wire frame was supposed to be done. 1. Learnt a new methodology of keeping myself committed towards doing something as promised on the new team. 2. Since the team already started working on the data and had completed the phase 2 there has been an Amazing surprise that the team members come up to you and just start giving you more points as to what has to be done. 3. My traditional way of learning has always been writing over a book and Paper ( as they say the old school habit). 4. My Tech knowledge has been improving over the days, with Collaboration. Now I understand the importance of Collaborating. It helps you to think better than what you think as an Individual. 5. Hopefully I get to a point where my Data Wire Frame gets completed soon. Team success is my success too!
