My family love waffles! "Hey this is LinkedIn... who cares what you like to eat." This is about waffles as a metaphor for work/life. If that seems a stretch; consider what many of us think or say... "I'm super busy... and I need to be more productive!" How is it possible to hold onto both ends of this at the same time? Consider the humble waffle. When we gather as a family to enjoy waffles, our waffle iron is arguably super busy and fully productive. A cup of batter is added and 4 minutes later one delicious, perfectly cooked waffle is ready to eat. But the rest of us are waiting our turn. Can we not just squeeze more from this overworked device? Well... we can add more batter hoping for a bigger waffle to share, but the extra batter just oozes out onto the counter as an unappetizing blob. We can shorten the cooking time to say 3 minutes, but then it's undercooked and mushy (aka poor quality product). So what do we do? We talk, sip coffee, play with grand-kids, munch fruit, and enjoy each other's company and the experience. (aka make the most of what's available) Are you finding stuff is oozing out the side of your work creating a gooey mess on the counter? Is the quality of your work a bit undercooked and mushy? How much more are you trying to squeeze from that overworked device called YOU? If you're hungry to produce perfectly cooked, delicious, ready to eat results... but aren't sure how, drop me a line. #leader #leadership #burnout #coach https://lnkd.in/eUhs2n2

You know how everyone's posting their perfect turkey prep timelines? Well, here's my Thanksgiving reality: I grab my kids and we hit up one of our favorite local spots. And it got me thinking about goal-setting... Just like I've embraced that cooking a full feast isn't my thing, I've learned that the "traditional" path isn't always the right one. But whether you're orchestrating a 20-dish homemade spread or making a reservation like me, one principle holds true: Breaking down big goals into small steps is the key to success. The master chef plans days ahead: - Brine turkey (Tuesday) - Chop veggies (Wednesday) - Time each dish (Thursday) I plan too, just differently: - Book reservation early - Coordinate with kids' schedules - Show up hungry 😉 In business, this same principle drives results. Start small. Start specific. And most importantly - start with what actually works for YOU. Sometimes the best strategy isn't following the traditional recipe - it's writing your own. What's your next big goal, and what's the smallest first step you could take today? #Leadership #PersonalDevelopment #AuthenticLeadership #WorkingParent #Thanksgiving https://lnkd.in/gqDG3wRY

I’ve recently rediscovered my weakness for egg salad sandwiches. 🥪 This weekend, we celebrated my daughter’s third birthday 🥳, and true to my Italian and French roots, I made WAY too much food—and still worried it wasn’t enough! Naturally, we ended up with lots of leftovers, and I can now confidently say that all the egg salad sandwiches have been devoured… by me. 😋 I feel a little guilty because I didn’t exactly give anyone else a chance. In our house, you’ve got to be quick! 🤷♀️ Plus, I couldn't stop eating them so I didn't feel so great afterwards. Having too many egg salad sandwiches (or chips, cookies, or anything delicious but not so good for you, for that matter) in the house is dangerous. It’s all too easy to eat what’s in front of me, even when it doesn’t align with my health goals. So, why am I telling you this? Because to set myself up for success, I (usually) make sure my environment supports my healthy habits. That means keeping temptation foods out of easy reach. As James Clear says in his book: Atomic Habits, it’s not about relying on willpower—it’s about creating an environment that helps you succeed. What does this have to do with leadership? Successful leadership starts with knowing who you are and creating an environment that sets both you and your team up for success. In leadership, just like in life tempted by egg salad sandwiches, you need to know yourself—and create an environment that sets both you and your team up for success. It’s about keeping your vision and goals front and center and designing your environment to achieve them. 🚀 That might mean scheduling time for the tasks you dread, prioritizing your team’s needs, and focusing on the actions that will move you forward.📈 Who knew egg salad sandwiches could be a metaphor for leadership success? 😂 Join us next week for our 5-day complimentary Empowered Leadership Workshop (noon ET each day for 1 hour). You will learn so much about yourself and your leadership style, and how to turn that into your team’s success (egg salad sandwiches optional). #CultureEatsStrategyOnBreakfast Peter Drucker, a big name in management, once said, "Culture eats strategy for breakfast." What he meant was that the way people work together (culture) is more crucial than just having good plans (strategy). For example, think of a company with a brilliant strategy written on paper, but everyone ignores it because they don't work well together. On the other hand, a company with a strong culture of teamwork and trust can adapt and succeed even if their plans aren't perfect. Drucker's point is simple: a great strategy is useless if the people and the way they work together don't support it. That's why focusing on building a positive and effective culture is essential for any organization's success… #Strategy #Corporate #Culture #Success #PeterDrucker #Leaders #Management

Culture eats strategy for breakfast, right? But... breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so it's crucial to make time before your culture starves :) All joking aside, this concept aligns two things I enjoy Parkinson’s Law and Good to Great by targeting ‘activity’ as a poor aspiration. Sometimes it is important to get distance from the 'urgent' to make space. If Strategy Is So Important, Why Don’t We Make Time for It? (hbr.org)

Today, I took on the challenge of making 12 pizzas for friends and family. While it sounds like a fun Sunday activity, the truth is, it was as nerve-wracking as it was exciting. The fear of not getting it right under the watchful eyes of an eager crowd really puts one's resilience to the test. What if the dough doesn’t rise? What if the toppings aren’t to everyone's taste? As the time ticked closer to their arrival, the pressure mounted. Yet, the experience was a reminder of how facing our fears, much like managing a tight project deadline or presenting to a board, teaches us to trust in our preparations and skills. In the end, not only did the pizzas turn out great, but I also learned a valuable lesson in embracing the heat of the moment. This experience reinforced a vital lesson: the importance of stepping out of our comfort zones. Whether it’s in the kitchen or in the boardroom, the real growth happens when we face our fears head-on. Have you had a similar experience where you turned a personal challenge into a learning opportunity? Let’s share and inspire resilience. #Leadership #Resilience #LearningThroughDoing

Manager 🥳 : "Strap in team, this year we are off for an overpriced and underwhelming dinner in Christmas jumpers! But don't worry, we will cover it, so it wont cost you a thing!" (Disclaimer - It is not guaranteed that you wont be required to pay for your dodgy meal.) The rest of the team 😳 (pick your preferred response accordingly): 1. "So you're saying my time doesn't cost anything?" 2. "Is it mandatory to attend?" 3. "What time will it finish?" 4. "Could we do lunchtime instead?" 5. "Can't we just finish early for the day instead?" 6. "Didn’t that place fail a health inspection last year?" The ultimate demonstration that you care is not bad food and forced fun, it's investing in their growth 👏 🎶 "Deck the halls with boughs of learning, fa la la la la, la la la la" 🎶 #christmas #investment #learning #development #growth #team #coaching #potential #leadership #leading #manager
