Kick-off of the V-Label Advisory Board meeting today. And it’s a first… 🫢 In my everyday business, I’m used to being the only vegan in a place. The only one who is lobbying for cruelty-free food, fashion and beauty. 🧑🎤 Now, I am in a team of people who have the same mission. Some of my colleagues started with a vegan diet for health reasons, some for environmental reasons and most to prevent animals from being born into a system of exploitation and violence… We all share the same vision: making plant-based products the new standard. I just came across a very sustainable business in the food sector, and I couldn't be more impressed. UGLY Vodka is not your typical vodka brand – they're on a mission to redefine what it means to be "ugly" and to make a significant impact on our planet's health. Let me share their inspiring story with you. When I learned about UGLY VODKA's mission, it struck a chord with me. Thousands of perfectly good apples are discarded every day simply because they don't meet the cosmetic standards of the market. It's a heartbreaking reality that contributes significantly to CO2 emissions and food wastage. But UGLY VODKA saw an opportunity to make a difference. By repurposing 20,000 kilograms of these "ugly" apples from the Goulburn Valley, they're not just creating a premium vodka – they're making a stand against wastefulness. They're turning what would've been greenhouse gas-emitting waste into something beautiful, all while preventing the release of harmful methane into our atmosphere. And it doesn't stop there. UGLY VODKA's commitment to sustainability extends to its innovative bottle design. With 30% less glass on average, they're reducing their carbon footprint and conserving resources without compromising on quality. But what truly impresses me is their dedication to being not just carbon neutral, but carbon negative. Knowing that every sip of UGLY VODKA contributes to offsetting carbon emissions and earning climate-active certification from the Victorian Government fills me with pride.
