When making a claim gets attention! This picture of Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina making a claim after exiting an insane wave at Teahupoo for the Olympics, made headlines around the world. Why? Because it looked so god like, perfectly balanced, appears to be standing on a cloud with his board floating upright in the air, and so aligned with him that everyone thought it had to be AI and not real...... It was real! At Mrs Toddy's Tonic a functional beverage company my wife developed, we are constantly asked if our products are brewed using real ingredients, or made with extracts, which are really just flavour profiles. We thought it was time to let the cat out of the bag and share our little secret! How can we produce products that are sold in the chilled drinks section, that are shelf stable, using real ingredients, with a long shelf life, that can be stored and transported ambient, using no artificial preservatives and not expensive to purchase? We developed our IP through an extensive R&D and formulation process and with customised equipment that allows for all of the above and what sets us apart from most of our competitors. It's not a big secret that I've moved away from alcohol and am enjoying the "Cali-sober" lifestyle. This really thorough article from Eater Twin Cities dives deep into the rise and strength of the hemp-derived beverage business here in Minnesota. I know at the co-op we are constantly refilling our cooler, and most of our SKU's are local brands. I've tried them all (you're welcome) and have opinions on milligrams of THC and CBD, flavors, bubbles, price, and how they make me feel in general. Overall, it's been terrific for a little evening relaxation and definitely makes a positive impact on sleep (I'm not a doctor, don't play one on tv, please talk to your own doctor for actual advice). Together, we tackled the challenge of consumers who forget to consume fruits daily by co-creating a simple solution that serves as a daily reminder inspired by the proven concept of a pill box.   Leveraging our triple bottom line approach of People, Planet, and Profit, we devised The Zespri Fruit 𝙿̶𝚒̶𝚕̶𝚕box- a 7-day kiwifruit packaging that encourages consumers to eat 1 kiwifruit a day. Meticulously crafted from 100% recyclable materials and printed with vegetable-based inks, each compartment holds a delightful Zespri SunGold kiwifruit, aligned with the days of the week that is also inclusively printed using Braille.   With a concept-to-product launch in just 4 months, the sales trial of The Fruit Pillbox showed promise as 75% of Singapore consumers who purchased the packaging agreed that the packaging reminds them to consume 1 kiwifruit each day and 71% expressed that they are likely to repurchase kiwifruit in this packaging, if available. 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 - 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗼𝗺𝗯𝘂𝗰𝗵𝗮? Today marks my first day back after our annual holiday to Germany to visit Lisa Puddle's family. There's a lot the Germans do better: healthcare (sadly, we needed it), lidos (first-class facilities that are so affordable they're nearly free), saunas, and stockbrot (translated as "stick bread"), which is a delightful upgrade from roasting marshmallows (see pictured). However, when it comes to kombucha, they're years behind. We searched high and low, but came up empty-handed. Seven days without kombucha took its toll, and we were relieved to come home to a fridge stocked with MOMO Kombucha | B Corp™. It's surprising given the mega trends driving kombucha's popularity in the UK — gut health, low sugar, and alcohol alternatives. These trends are surely present in Germany too, so it’s puzzling that they're lagging in this area. Any suggestions to why this might be the case? In the meantime, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed things change before our 2025 trip....
