Building startups and scale-ups can grow your leadership like nothing else. They're also incredibly tricky business phases to navigate. Here are six insights about startups and scale-ups I've observed as a COO and by interviewing leaders for my series. 1. Compensation will break—again and again. Pat Caldwell https://rebrand.ly/1iwbsf5 2. Scaling requires very different org GTM strategies Jacob Smith https://rebrand.ly/27kwu9r 3. Being purposeful about building your org in early days will help you in the growth stages Zachary Smith https://rebrand.ly/jyxq15i 4. The CEO's job changes every six months Laura Del Beccaro https://rebrand.ly/3nawsay 5. Scaling is an intense time, surround yourself with mentors Michelle O'Connor https://rebrand.ly/p8ekrt1 Finally, one from me. Siloed orgs will struggle to maintain their culture and meet goals. As you move from startup to scaleup, keeping the org aligned as one team is everything. https://rebrand.ly/g2dyk79 ♻ Please repost if you found this useful!

What is a Board Meeting? Why is it important? A Board Meeting is a gathering of the company's board of directors Including C-level executives operating in the startup, investors who have invested in the startup, and independent board members. Its purpose is to recap and assess the company's operations (within 1 to 6 months) Unify strategic development directions, and propose solutions to support the management team. Board Meetings are crucial, especially when held regularly among startup members, typically organized every 1 to 3 months because: -Startups grow rapidly and change strategies quickly. -To evaluate whether the management team's capabilities keep up with the growth rate. -To propose solutions for hiring additional high-level personnel to support operations or replacing current personnel. If you need to build a roadmap for raising capital and growing your business from $1M -> $M25 revenue in 03 years, you can check out this solution: https://lnkd.in/gu_ET-WY

It was great to take a moment to reflect on my founder journey and share a few important lessons I’ve learned along the way – like making decisions with a long-term perspective, setting realistic expectations for your team, and cutting the technical jargon wherever I can. I came across this post where Vinod Khosla is making such a significant point! Business founders and CEOs may well like to listen to this, even as they make their choices for independent board members or strategic advisors! Post my exit from Mirum (after completing my earn out with WPP Group, who acquired our business) earlier this year, I have been engaged with a small number of mid-sized businesses as a strategic advisor and on the other hand, mentoring a few very smart startup founders. Across a diverse set of domains. And with due modesty, I can state that I have been able to add solid value and enabled good business impact for nearly all of them. And it’s simply on account of the 35 years spent building 3 different businesses, two of which were from ground-up! The learning you get from being in the trenches is indeed, second to none! https://lnkd.in/da54T67W
