If you're anything like me, you often like to think of life's great imponderables just as you’re drifting off to sleep every night.
Like if I could only eat one cuisine for the rest of my life, what would it be? (The answer is Italian, always. Don't fight me.) 🍕
Like if I had to build a dream 3 car garage, what would it be? (A Defender, 911 GT3 Touring, and McLaren F1, if you must ask) 🏎️💨
Like if I could choose a superpower, what would it be?
I don't have a good answer for this last one, but most leaders and companies don't either. Truth is, more businesses and most people are being disrupted today than at perhaps any previous point in human history. As a leader or as an organisation, if you’re not putting in the hours doing mental gymnastics and building the muscle needed to compete in a brave new world and working overtime to find and hone your superpower, your opponents will run rings around you.
Kalyan Ram Madabhushi, who I sat down with for a chat some weeks back, is not hamstrung by this lack of clarity. His superpower is his purity of thought, which came through in calm, dulcet tones, silk belied by the steel gently underlying his words. After all, you don’t carve a global career with titans such as Shell and Aditya Birla without having the required strategic nous.
Pinpointing your superpower is all well and good, but knowing how you’ll make the most of the responsibility that comes with that great power, and get yourself and your flock from here to there is a big part of the journey. And Kalyan Ram has that down pat. Because one of his superpowers is communicating. Succinctly, and eloquently.
As for me, I’d probably go with mind control as my superpower, so that you forget that I didn’t know my superpower at the start of this post. Don’t remember that happening? Maybe my powers are starting to kick in after all...enough to convince you to give this a watch, perhaps?
As always, big thanks to Sakshi for helping make this happen.
#CSuiteConversations | When you think of the role of a typical C-Suite executive, you typically picture someone charting the company's vision, managing the board, maintaining great communication with stakeholders, addressing tough questions, and driving results relentlessly. These attributes and behaviors are indeed expected from senior executives.
However, beyond all of that, there is another layer of behaviours that often goes unseen yet arguably contributes significantly to the success of these leaders. These cumulative micro-habits help leaders generate a focus that aids them in the office, while enabling them to inspire others. These are the tales we look to capture in our C-Suite Conversations, and our latest one with Kalyan Ram Madabhushi, Former Chief Operations Officer (COO), Pulp and Fibre business, Aditya Birla Group, is a treasure trove of insights, and one you don’t want to miss. Do watch!
