I had a lot of fun working with these guys last week, using the 'international language' of Belbin's Team Role theory as part of our practical input.. Why do I like using Belbin? ✅ It's easy to communicate, understand and use. ✅ The reports are comprehensive, visual and appropriate. ✅ It's based on observable behaviour, not personality. ✅ It doesn't discriminate, label or box. ✅ It's almost uncanny in its accuracy. ✅ The algorithm it uses is constantly updated making it relevant and current. ✅ It's a great way to begin powerful conversations that enhance communication and support change in groups and teams. What’s a really great way to make sure that you involve the right people in the right task, at the right time? Last week our Team Coach Lead, Chris Jackson was co-coaching alongside Terhi Skaniakos from Tiimiakatemia Global Ltd. on their Senior Team Coach programme. They were working with a small team from the Czech Republic who are exploring how they might begin to grow a team learning culture in their organisation. It’s often useful to have a framework or model that can be used to start the conversations needed to action such change. Lisa Ward from Belbin HQ supported Chris by delivering an interactive workshop that introduced the team to their individual and collective roles and helped them to explore and understand how they might use this information to best effect. They also considered whether or not all of Belbin’s nine Team Roles were represented in the team. Using their Belbin Individual reports and completing the Belbin Team Role Circle exercise they were able to identify any gaps, explore what that could mean for team effectiveness and how they might address any gaps. Great to see #BelbinTeamRoles in thoughtful action here! Terhi Skaniakos and colleagues from Czech Republic, I'm looking forward to exploring this in relation to connections and networks outside the team in the next module!
