This is Scope 3 emissions reporting in action... Lang O'Rourke has set emissions limits on its concrete. Perhaps (finally) we will see #greencrete get a foothold in the Australian #builtenvironment. I like that they've made their carbon limits public too, for example 50MPa concrete can have no more tha 300kgCO2 per sq metre. 👉🏾Have a read of this insightful report on the ‘potential role of modern methods of construction in addressing systemic supply issues’ which the UK Collaborative Centre for Housing Evidence published in 2023. 🌍It looks at the successful delivery of MMC across the globe. Here are some key country-level findings: 💡CHINA: two central policy interventions took place, 1) a list of industrialised housing (IH) standards that provided technical support for IH practices and 2) a preliminary IH building materials and standardised production system was established. 💡JAPAN: evidence shows how MMC housing has been encouraged by the government extensively and integrated into mainstream housing policy. Government support for MMC included founding two new bodies to 1) support research and training, undertake promotion activities and 2) foster information exchange and collaboration on standards. 💡NETHERLANDS: changing current land policy and increasing the amount of land available encouraged platform-driven housebuilding. The report concludes that "state leadership is crucial in promoting and incentivising MMC as a mainstream form of housing provision…The policy discourse should be clear, consistent and certain."
